Majlis menandatangani surat niat kerjasama antara Universiti Malaysia Sabah dan Linopot Venture Sdn Bhd

KOTA KINABALU, 28 Mei 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) melalui Fakulti Sains Makanan dan Pemakanan (FSMP) telah memeterai satu Surat Niat (Letter of Intent, LoI) bersama Linopot Venture Sdn. Bhd., anak syarikat Borneo Guarana Sdn. Bhd., dalam satu majlis yang diadakan secara rasmi di fakulti berkenaan.

Majlis ini menandakan permulaan kepada kerjasama strategik antara kedua-dua pihak dalam memperkukuh pembangunan industri makanan dan herba tempatan, terutamanya di negeri Sabah dan rantau Borneo secara amnya. Kerjasama ini merangkumi bidang penyelidikan dan pembangunan produk, latihan industri, konsultansi teknikal, serta sokongan kepada sektor makanan dan herba di Sabah.

Majlis menandatangani dokumen tersebut telah disempurnakan oleh:

  • Profesor Ts. Dr. Hasmadi Mamat, Dekan Fakulti Sains Makanan dan Pemakanan, Universiti Malaysia Sabah
  •  Encik Sami Bangun, ASDK, ADK, BSK, Pengerusi Eksekutif Linopot Venture Sdn. Bhd.

Turut hadir menyaksikan majlis ini ialah Profesor Dr. James J. Gid, Pengarah Pusat Penataran Lestari, UMS, serta barisan pengurusan kanan fakulti dan pihak Linopot Venture.

Inisiatif ini diharap dapat memperkukuh hubungan antara akademia dan industri, serta menyokong agenda pembangunan lestari berasaskan sumber tempatan di rantau Borneo. Melalui kerjasama ini, UMS komited untuk terus meneroka potensi baharu dalam inovasi makanan dan herba, sekali gus memperkasakan peranan universiti sebagai pemangkin pembangunan komuniti dan ekonomi setempat.

UMS, UB Indonesia tingkat kerjasama dalam penyelidikan ikan haruan

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) melalui Fakulti Sains Makanan dan Pemakanan (FSMP) terus memperkukuh jaringan kerjasama akademik serantau dengan Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Indonesia, menerusi pelbagai inisiatif strategik yang melibatkan penyelidikan, mobiliti dan pembangunan akademik dua hala.
Terbaharu, kerjasama antara kedua-dua universiti menyaksikan pelaksanaan program mobiliti inbound selama tiga minggu bermula 23 April hingga 17 Mei 2025 yang lalu, melibatkan seramai lapan pelajar dari Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan (FPIK), UB.
Sepanjang berada di FSMP, para pelajar menjalankan penyelidikan berkaitan penghasilan produk makanan berasaskan protein daripada ikan haruan (Channa striata) di mana ikan haruan adalah sejenis ikan tempatan yang berpotensi tinggi dari segi pemakanan dan terapeutik terutama dalam penyembuhan luka.
Menurut Dekan FSMP, Profesor Ts. Dr. Hasmadi Mamat, program tersebut menjadi platform penting dalam memperkukuh kolaborasi dua hala menerusi pendekatan interdisiplin antara bidang sains makanan dan perikanan.
”Bagi memperluas ruang kerjasama, delegasi rasmi FPIK, Universitas Brawijaya yang diketuai oleh Prof. Dr. Ir. Eddy Suprayitno, bersama Dr. Abdul Aziz Jaziri dan Heder Djamaludin, telah mengadakan lawatan ke FSMP.
”Lawatan tersebut turut merangkumi sesi perbincangan strategik serta perancangan kolaborasi masa depan.
”Antara perkara utama yang dibincangkan termasuklah cadangan pelaksanaan geran penyelidikan matching fund, pelantikan Profesor Adjung dan Profesor Pelawat, serta pengukuhan mobiliti pelajar dan staf secara lebih terancang dan berimpak tinggi,” katanya.
Tambah Hasmadi, perbincangan antara kedua-dua universiti turut mencadangkan penganjuran bersama persidangan antarabangsa, yang akan menjadi platform ilmiah untuk menghimpunkan penyelidik, pemain industri dan pembuat dasar dari Malaysia dan Indonesia khususnya dalam bidang makanan, pemakanan, sumber marin dan inovasi teknologi makanan tropika.

The 2nd Nutrition International Colloquium for Excellence in Undergraduate Research (NICER 2025) was successfully held on 24 May 2025, bringing together undergraduate students, academics, and professionals from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), IPB University (Indonesia), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS, Indonesia), and UCSI University (Malaysia). This fully virtual colloquium provided a meaningful platform for final-year nutrition students to showcase their research, exchange ideas, and foster cross-border academic connections. We were honoured to host two distinguished keynote speakers, Dr. Healthy Hidayanty (Hasanuddin University), who shared compelling insights on adolescent nutrition in island communities of South Sulawesi; and Prof. Drajat Martianto (IPB University), who addressed the critical issue of climate change and its impact on food and nutrition. We are proud to highlight our Best Presenters from UMS; Wiveena Logalingam and Claire Chong Yen Jing, both supervised by Dr. Khor Ban Hock and Queenie Ling Zhong Ni, supervised by Dr. Noor Atiqah Aizan Abdul Kadir. 13 Mei 2025 (Tuesday) | Kota Kinabalu Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition (FSMP) held a Workshop on Filling in the E-Linkages system at the Odoratissimus Meeting Room, FSMP. The workshop was delivered by Mr. Sylvencent Pokhan, Head of Administration, Strategic Management Center (PPS), UMS. The workshop was attended by FSMP academic staff and also the Person-in-charge (PIC) for LoI/ MoU/ MoA management at FSMP.

Future Food: Emerging Trends, Health, and Diversity

Public Lecture 2025 organized by Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition (FSMP), UMS was successfully held on 14 May 2025 (Wednesday) at the FSMP Seminar Room. This lecture featured a renowned figure, Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Babji, Chief Science Officer and Inventor, who touched on critical issues and the future of the global food system. Among the important essences covered was the urgent need to produce healthy and sustainable food through research innovation, product development and food processing technology. He emphasized the role of a plant-based diet as an important trend post-COVID-19, not only in building immunity and gut health, but also in reducing the carbon footprint of the food industry. Research on local agro-raw material sources and industry-university collaboration were also highlighted as key keys in developing a more environmentally friendly and affordable food system. This session was attended physically and also broadcast live via Webex and Facebook Live. The highest appreciation is extended to the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) for their cooperation as co-organizers and all parties who made this program a success.
