SECOND BATCH OF SHARE SCHOLARSHIP IS OPEN FOR APPLICATION
EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE) Programme announces opening for Second Batch of Scholarships on 1 September 2016

Jakarta, 8 August 2016 – As student mobility plays an important role in the further development of higher education in ASEAN, the European Union (EU) and ASEAN have teamed up to announce today the opening of their second batch of scholarship for January-July 2017 intake. Undergraduate students in ASEAN countries interested in studying one semester in another ASEAN country are invited to apply for one of the 125 full scholarships available.

The scholarship scheme is part of the work of the "EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region, or SHARE, designed to encourage ASEAN student mobility and to test the application of an ASEAN-wide credit transfer systems.

“This special partnership with the European Union allows us to empower talented students, to pursue their chosen careers, and exchange invaluable insights and experience. An effective regional higher education system centred on an ASEAN scholarship scheme for students is a key element in promoting people connectivity and supports integration efforts in ASEAN," said H.E. Mr. Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

"The EU is very pleased to bring its wealth of expertise from the European Bologna Process to support ASEAN through the SHARE programme in building its own scholarship scheme and regional systems," said EU Ambassador to ASEAN H.E. Fransisco Fontan. "The European Erasmus scholarship scheme is known worldwide as the gold standard in exchange programmes. Millions of students from Europe, as well as countries world-wide, have benefitted from the scheme not only through their academic qualifications but also by experiencing Europe on a personal level. This has had a profound impact on community-building in Europe" he added.

Temy Ramadan, SHARE Batch 1 Awardee from University of Indonesia to University of the Philippines said, "SHARE scholarship is new, but trust me it's worth it! It gives full financial support, so we could focus on our studies. With SHARE, I am hoping to get first-hand experience on living abroad. Being exposed as a part of ASEAN community is also a great chance to connect, and to learn about outside perspective on my country and ASEAN in general. For university students who want to embark on an amazing experience in ASEAN region, you should apply to SHARE!”
