After completing her PhD in 2016, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr Noor Sheena established a Malaysian standard seismic design, the Malaysia Annex or MSEN1998:2015 (2017), providing Malaysian engineers with a guideline for earthquake-resistant building construction. These seismic values are generated using probabilistic mathematical modelling of self-built programs with verification from other commercial software.

On August 9, 2024, The Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS); through its Civil Engineering Club organized the Environmental Awareness talk session which was delivered by Ts. Dr. Siti Birkha binti Mohd Ali from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL). She is one of the IET Malaysia Local Network (LN) committee 2023/2025. The talk aimed to provide insight into the environmental impact of energy savings, namely electricity consumption in buildings.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has awarded Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) with a Strategic Research Fund (SRF) grant amounting to RM2,515,900.00. The grant, administered through the Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) as the implementing and monitoring agency under MOSTI, supports the implementation of the Integrated Multi-Hop Transceiver Scavenging System (IMHTS) under the Space-Based Technology program.

Researchers from the Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) fabricated carbonized sawdust/barium titanate composite using a sol-gel method, which was later incorporated into cotton substrate by using a dip-coating process to produce a solar absorber.

Ts. Dr. Norfarariyanti binti Parimon has been engaged in the fabrication and characterization of metal oxide semiconductor-based sensing devices since beginning her Ph.D. studies in 2018. Her research focuses primarily on the development of p-type nickel oxide (NiO) nanostructures using the immersion method for humidity sensor applications.

In 2022, through HiPER, as advisor to the 3rd year Electric and Electronic Integrated Design Project, Dr Megat had brought his team’s prototype entitled "Self-Powered LED System Using Carbon-Based Nanofluid Photothermoelectric Storage" that presented at International Conference on Advances in Manufacturing and Materials Engineering: ICAMME 2022, 9—10 August, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and National Innovation and Invention Competition (NIICe) 2022, 22 August, UTHM, Malaysia and awarded with silver medal.

Nutrient Recovery Through Adsorption Process

The excessive presence of nutrients, primarily nitrogen and phosphorus, has unleashed a menacing ecological domino effect, igniting algal blooms in many water bodies. These algal blooms, though visually striking, bring darkness to the aquatic world, blocking sunlight and depleting oxygen levels. The far-reaching consequences of this phenomenon have given birth to dead zones - regions marked by alarmingly low oxygen levels, causing the death of marine life and severely impacting fishing industries.

The Faculty of Engineering is delighted to welcome Dr. Ng Chi Huey to the Oil and Gas Program as a Senior Lecturer. After receiving her Ph.D. from Universiti Putra Malaysia and Kyushu Institute of Technology, Dr. Ng worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Japan, where her experience with well-resourced laboratories and cutting-edge technologies helped her develop linkages, scientific discussions, and long-term collaborations with researchers in Japan.
