The Science & Technology Seminar 2026 (S&T 2026) (International Series) marks the 18th edition organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universiti Malaysia Sabah. It continues the success of previous seminars in bringing together local and international participants and presenters from diverse research backgrounds.
S&T 2026 provides a platform for knowledge dissemination, the sharing of research findings, discussions on current issues, and the exploration of new collaborative opportunities within science, technology, and society. The seminar aligns with the global necessity to understand and address increasingly complex multidisciplinary challenges, particularly regarding climate change, biodiversity loss, public health, food and water security, disaster risks, population growth, urbanization, economic uncertainty, political dynamics, social development, and digital technological advancements.
In line with international research trends, emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics, biotechnology, renewable energy, smart city systems, and planetary health approaches open new avenues for collaboration between academia, industry, policymakers, and civil society. Simultaneously, fields such as social sciences, geography, public policy, economics, international relations, politics, resource management, and community development are becoming increasingly vital for understanding the implications of technological progress on society, governance, social justice, human security, and environmental sustainability.
Consequently, S&T 2026 emphasizes cross-disciplinary participation involving pure sciences, applied sciences, engineering sciences, social sciences, economics, politics, public policy, and development. This approach aims to bridge scientific and technological innovation with social, economic, and political insights to strengthen human and environmental resilience.
The seminar is expected to contribute to increased research output, the establishment of international collaborative networks, interdisciplinary knowledge sharing, the enhancement of the university's image, and support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and regional development agendas.
