Aquaculture program at the Borneo Marine Research Institute aims to undertake scholarly research in need-based areas of sustainable aquaculture development; to provide high-quality education, hands-on experience and training in aquaculture; to disseminate knowledge and facilitate its application to scientific, social and economic problems related to aquaculture. The objectives of the program are to provide advance knowledge for building up post-graduates that are capable in planning and designing innovative research in the areas related to sustainable aquaculture; to produce post-graduates that are able to develop strategies and policy for the sustainable development of aquaculture sectors; to build up and train competent post-graduates that are readily served as knowledgeable human capital in the aquaculture industry; to generate new knowledge in aquaculture through innovative and novel research and to develop leadership in all aspects of aquaculture.

Upon graduation, graduates are expected to have sufficient knowledge related to sustainable aquaculture development; to have technical skills in experimental research design, systematic data collection, analysing and interpreting research findings with minimum supervision; to be able to conceptualise solutions to problems in aquaculture using both analytical and critical thinking skills; to be able to communicate research outputs both orally and in writing; to be able to work effectively with peers, and stakeholders, and have the ability to organise ideas pertaining to societal issues in sustainable aquaculture development; to be able to adhere to ethical issues and practice professionalism in conducting research; to be able to manage information related to the development of sustainable aquaculture for lifelong learning; to be able to manage project related to sustainable aquaculture development and create job opportunity and to be able to become a resource person that can provide technical advice to aquaculture community.

Marine Science program aims to undertake scholarly research in need-based areas of marine science; to provide high-quality education, hands-on experience and training in marine science; to disseminate knowledge and facilitate its application to scientific, social and economic problems related to marine environment and resources. Its objectives are to provide advance knowledge to build up post-graduates are capable to plan and design experiment for innovative research in the areas related to marine science; to produce post-graduates that are able to develop strategies and policy for the development in the marine science sectors on a long run basis; to build up and train post-graduates as workforce for sustainable development in marine based industry on local environment; to acquire knowledge through research and develop leadership in all aspects of marine science sectors.

Marine Biotechnology program is established with the aims to undertake scholarly research in bio-mining of marine resources using biotechnological tools; to provide high-quality education, hands-on experience and training in marine biotechnology; to disseminate knowledge and facilitate its application to scientific, social and economic problems related to marine biotechnology; to generate economics from marine resources-value-added products. The program objectives are to provide advance knowledge to build up post-graduates that are capable in planning and designing experiments for innovative marine biotechnology research; to produce post-graduates that are able to develop strategies and policy for the development in the marine biotechnology sectors on a long run basis; to build up and train post-graduates as workforce for marine biotechnology industry; to acquire knowledge through research and develop leadership in all aspects of marine biotechnology.
