In this course, students are trained to plan and perform projects on specific activities. This course aims to teach students the basics and theories of leadership and organization. Students will learn proper techniques to communicate with people and to make decision. Upon completing the course, students will conduct a collaborated project with a rural community, where they will be tested on skills of managing a meeting, decision making, accomplishing tasks, preparing paperwork and implementing plans. This course also incorporates on soft-skills enhancement in which student must actively participate in related social and community activities and programmes.

This course aims to educate students the functions of a mosque in Islam and its significance as an effective institution to care and maintain the Islamic teachings. Students are also guided to maximize the role of a mosque by channelling the community service to public including the fardhu kifayah. from initial process to the burial; this includes the bathing, the shrouding and the praying of a body. This course also incorporates on soft-skills enhancement in which student must actively participate in related social and community activities and programmes.

Health promotion module is a co-curriculum activity run by the School of Medicine. The activity is suited specifically for the student in the Medical Doctor programme. In this module the student group is expected to plan, prepare a proposal and implement the health promotion activity based on finding from rapid rural appraisal in a selected rural area. The assessment is based assessment by the group supervisor on the individual performance, group report and group presentation.

Oration is a form of public speaking. In this course, students learn the thinking skill to imagine and expand ideas spontaneously. In order to develop the scope of this course and to make it more compact and dynamic (as it is a co-curriculum), the management aspects are also taught in this course. One of the content of this course is to expose students on the management procedure of activities relating to public speaking (for example, a debate, forum, oration, poetry and pantun). Welcome to the Centre for Co-curriculum and Student Development (CCSD), Universiti Malaysia Sabah. CCSD was founded on 1st June 2002 with the aim of shaping undergraduates who will be balanced in the aspects of intellect, spiritually, emotion and corporal, whilst upgrading their physical, mental and spiritual resilience, alongside promoting creative, innovative, productive and proactive mind set as well as instilling self-esteem and perservance to face challenges. CCSD is responsible to uphold University’s aspirations to produce quality and holistic human capital and resources. Student excellence are not only measured in fields of academic, but also in acquisitions of soft-skill or generic-skill competencies. These combined factors nevertheless, may contribute to students’ intellectual capabilities and personality attributes. In the contemporary job market today, value-added attributes are prime factors for students or graduates to face challenges and needs in their working environment. Some of the skills needed are, Leadership Skills, Team-working Skills, Communication and Social Skills, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills, and development of Moral and Professional Ethic Skills. In CCSD, these skills are embedded and intergrated in the teaching and learning process for co-curriculum courses.

CCSD is responsible to monitor and oversee the implementation of co-curriculum program, teaching and learning process at three (3) UMS campuses; Kota Kinabalu Main Campus, Labuan International Campus and the SPL Sandakan Campus. CCSD is also responsible to ensure the courses offered are in relevance to the needs and aspiration for student personality development and excellence, and it’s practise through structured pedagogy, the integrative learning system that is, acquisitions of professional/technical   skill as well as the soft-skill. The integrated learning system to produce holistic graduates thus, would ensure UMS will produce well- balanced graduates to face the current career challenges. It is our aspirations that the structured and systematic teaching and learning concepts will produce excellent future leaders. EP30601 SUKSIS VI

Offer to Malaysian citizen students. This course will elaborate the role of Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM). Students will be exposed to various kind of police training such as social services, marching, weapons handling and academic/social visits to a few police headquaters around Kota Kinabalu. The overall course need six semesters or three years to complete and the student will be awarded a title of Volunteer Inspector in PDRM. Training will be conducted by officer appointed from PDRM.

SISWA PERTAHANAN AWAM (SISPA)

EV 10101 SISPA I

This course will expose students to the paramedic skills related to first aid and handling of casualties, shock, bandages, sling and dressing, bleeding (haemorrhage), wounds dan fractures, suffocations, burns and scalds, crushing injury, insensibility and transport of casualties, practical training and SISPA’s marching guide.

EV 10201 SISPA II

This course will expose students to Fire-Rescue techniques. It’s include how the fire started (the fire triangle); how to prevent fire and burn; an introduction to firefighting equipment; firefighting using fire hydrant (wet barrel and dry barrel); water supply system; procedure to escape from a burning building; rescue techniques and operation of road accidents; rescuing people from drowning; local training and SISPA’s marching guide.
