The history of the Research Management Centre (PPP) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah traces back to June 2002, a pivotal moment that heralded a new era of academic pursuit and scholarly advancement within our esteemed institution. Originally conceived as the Research and Conference Unit, our center embarked on a transformative journey, propelled by a vision to redefine the contours of research administration and scholarly engagement.

Over the ensuing years, our center has evolved into a dynamic hub of intellectual inquiry and research management, catalyzing groundbreaking discoveries and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Transform in April 2021

This evolution culminated in April 2021 with the rechristening of our center as the Research Management Centre (PPP), signifying a renewed commitment to propel research excellence to unprecedented heights.

A full service organization focused on Strategy, funding and management 

STRATEGIC AND EXCELLENCE DIVISION OF RESEARCH

Gathering, reporting MyRA UMS data digitally and in hard copy, organizing MyRA briefings and roadshows across faculties, managing MyRA data provision committee, internal/external research data audits, internal auditors’ appointments, strategic management affairs, providing UMS-KRA 2 reports, implementing research collaboration initiatives, handling postdoctoral appointments/extensions, Research Fellows/Associate Research Fellows applications, organizing Postdoctoral Appointment Application Meetings, and managing research grants including Strategic Special Fund Scheme (DKS) and Living Lab Fund Scheme (DLV).

RESEARCH FUND AND DATA DIVISION

Announcing Research Grant Applications. Conducting Financial Procedures Briefings for External Grants. Managing all grant documentation. Sending Proposals to funders. Handling RA/GRA Appointments, Allowances. Advising on Grant Utilization. Applying for Ministry Research Grants. Managing Expenditure Claims, Financial Statements. Reporting Budget Balances. Updating MyGRANTS System. Monitoring Expenditure. Managing Corporate Credit Card Use. Providing Financial Data for Reporting.

ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE DIVISION

Coordinate PPP meetings, including executive, administration, and department assemblies, as well as MS ISO audits. Oversee attendance, performance evaluations, leave, training, and employee portfolios. Maintain department records, handle customer complaints, and address quality management. Manage office logistics such as keys, copiers, maintenance, and document flow, along with contractor services. Handle PPP finances, storage, assets, and inventory, while also organizing departmental retreats and team-building events. Additionally, prepare expenditure estimates, facilitate financial meetings, reconcile trust accounts, oversee procurement, process claims, manage petty cash, and generate budget performance reports.
