For four days of the registration, 6,022 students will be checking into the main campus, 205 at its Sandakan branch and 168 at its international campus in Labuan.

As for its five hostels, UMS Kota Kinabalu can accommodate 7,834 students, while its Sandakan and Labuan campuses can accommodate 954 and 1,739 students, respectively.

"All students have to fill up the UMS-Shield form, an in-house online application developed by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in collaboration with the Faculty of Computing and Informatics.

"Students from Sabah have to undergo (Covid-19) swab tests during the registration.

"All students, whether they are local or from outside Sabah, have to undergo a 10-day isolation period," said UMS in a statement.

It said these measures are to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It said through these risk assessment screenings, people who are categorised as high risk will be isolated at the treatment centre.

Others who are in the low and medium risk group would be allowed on campus but are required to do QR code scanning at all locations.

"UMS has also identified isolation and quarantine areas should there be any symptomatic cases, should they require further monitoring and follow-up swab tests."

Prior to entering campus, students have to register at the main gate and scan the QR code for MySejahtera and UMS Smart Hadir applications.

Smart Hadir, which is downloadable via Android and iPhone platforms, is another application developed by UMS to track students' attendance and locations.

As for lecture sessions, it said these will be held through physical and online-based methods based on the requirements of the respective courses.

UMS said it will impose the standard operating procedures of frequent hand-washing, wearing face masks as well as physical distancing, while also not allowing any large-scale activities.
