ANNOUNCEMENT FROM : NUSANTARA PERFORMING ART RESEARCH CENTER
SUBJECT : INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BAJAU/ SAMA DIASPORA & MARITIME SOUTHEAST ASIAN CULTURES
International Conference on Bajau/Sama Diaspora & Maritime Southeast Asian Cultures
jointly organised by Nusantara Performing Arts Research Centre (NusParc), Sabah Museum, Tun Sakaran Museum and the Kadazandusun Chair, Universiti Malaysia Sabah will be held in conjunction with the Regatta Lepa 2016.
 
This is an international academic conference focusing on the themes of Migration, Politics, Rituals, Performing Arts, Heritage, Material Culture, Language and Identity among the Bajau/Sama diaspora and maritime Southeast Asian cultures.  Presenters will include a keynote speaker and invited international and local scholars who will present in their various fields for the benefit of scholars, academicians, university students, development strategists, government officials and cultural practitioners.
 
Dates:   19 - 24 April 2016
Venue:  Tun Sakaran Museum, Semporna, Sabah

  • RM 400 for regular participants
  • RM 150 for students with valid identification
Walk-In Registration (after 14 April 2016) to be paid on the day of registration:
  • RM 450 for regular participants
  • RM 170 for students with valid identification

Registration includes conference kit, tea breaks, lunch, dinner, site excursions.

  • Han Palace Hotel Room Rate: RM 150 per night (single or double)
  • Homestay Rate:  RM 50 per person per night

Rooms have been tentatively block-booked for conference participants on a first-come-first basis, but those who do not register for this before 12 April 2016, will have to find their own accommodation.

UMS staff will earn MyIDP points for attendance.

Students are encouraged to attend.

Places at the conference are limited so all who are interested to attend should register early.
