 CAMPUS LIFE @ UMS


Garis panduan ini bertujuan memberi keterangan dan penjelasan mengenai objektif, syarat, prosedur permohonan, tanggungjawab pelajar, tanggungjawab universiti dan tanggungjawab agensi dalam melaksanakan program Gap Year.

Program Gap Year telah diumumkan semasa Majlis Amanat  Menteri Pendidikan  Tinggi  2017 bagi memenuhi Lonjakan 1 Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia 2015 – 2025 (Pendidikan Tinggi) PPPM(PT) iaitu melahirkan graduan holistik, seimbang dan bercirikan keusahawanan. Program Gap Year akan dilaksanakan  dalam  jangka masa setahun untuk pelajar membuat refleksi  dan penerokaan diri  menerusi  program kesukarelawanan, keusahawanan, bersukan dan sebagainya.
 
Terdapat tiga bentuk program Gap Year iaitu :
  • Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan Khidmat Negara,
  • Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan; dan
  • Gap Year - Umum.
 
Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan Khidmat Negara
Program ini akan menempatkan pelajar yang berminat ke agensi-agensi badan beruniform iaitu Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Angkatan Tentera Malaysia(ATM) dan Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia(APM). Terdapat dua Universiti Awam (UA) yang akan menjadi peneraju kepada program Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan Khidmat Negara iaitu Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) dan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia  (UKM). Pelajar akan berkhidmat sebagai sukarelawan di tiga agensi tersebut selama satu tahun.
 
Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan
Program Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan merupakan program kerjasama antara universiti peneraju bersama agensi terlibat untuk pelajar melaksanakan aktiviti kesukarelawanan. Program ini akan dilaksanakan selama tiga (3) bulan sehingga satu (1) tahun. Universiti bersama agensi yang menawarkan program Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan dalam kategori ini adalah seperti berikut :-
  1. Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) – Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM)
  2. Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) – Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM)
  3. Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) – Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM)
  4. Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) – Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA)
  5. Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) – Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara (NADMA)
  6. Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) – Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK)
  7. Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) – Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia(KPM) dan Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri(JPN). 
 
Gap Year - Umum
Program Gap Year - Umum terbuka buat pelajar yang ingin menangguhkan pengajian bagi melibatkan diri di dalam aktiviti sukan, keusahawanan, meningkatkan kemahiran, melancong, dan sebagainya. Aktiviti yang dirancang oleh pelajar perlu mendapat kelulusan dan mengikut syarat-syarat yang telah ditetapkan oleh universiti masing-masing. Tempoh minimum program adalah selama satu semester tempoh maksimum adalah satu tahun kalender akademik. Program ini tidak mempunyai struktur spesifik seperti program Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan Khidmat Negara atau Gap Year - Kesukarelawanan. Pelajar bebas memilih program yang bermanfaat dan menambah nilai kemahiran mereka.
