“ World Animal Day is an international day of action for animals right and welfare celebrated annually on October 4th. Thus, in conjunction with World Animal Day on 4th October 2018,PPIB in conjunction with BAWSS and IAPWA are organizing a 1 day event. This event is hoped to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe specifically to the community in Sabah. 5th october will be the highlight of the event where talk and forum on animal welfare will be conducted. on the 6th october, the event will proceed with exibitions from different animal NGOs in Sabah.  Together we making a better future for animals. SUBJECT: CALL FOR AUTHORS: "ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS: TRANSFORMING THE WORLD WE WANT"

 

Dear Colleagues,


As you are probably aware, in September 2015 the UN General Assembly approved the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. On 1st January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development officially came into force.  The goals cover the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection.

The 17 SDGs are:

  • Goal 1     End poverty in all its forms everywhere
  • Goal 2     End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
  • Goal 3     Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
  • Goal 4     Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
  • Goal 5     Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  • Goal 6     Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
  • Goal 7     Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
  • Goal 8     Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
  • Goal 9     Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
  • Goal 10     Reduce inequality within and among countries
  • Goal 11     Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
  • Goal 12     Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
  • Goal 13     Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
  • Goal 14     Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
  • Goal 15     Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
  • Goal 16     Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
  • Goal 17     Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

 

There are to date no comprehensive publications addressing the SDGs in an integrated way. Therefore, the "Encyclopedia of the Sustainable Development Goals: Transforming the World We Want" is being produced by the World Sustainable Development Research and Transfer Centre and the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme, being published by Springer, as part of the award-winning "World Sustainability Series":

The Encyclopedia encompasses 17 volumes, each one devoted to one of the 17 SDGs.


Prof. Walter Leal (HAW Hamburg, Germany and Manchester Metropolitan University, UK) as the editor-in-chief is calling for expressions of interest from colleagues who may wish to support this project and may be interested to act as authors, writing chapters for the following volumes:

SDG1- No Poverty

SDG4- Quality Education

SDG 5- Gender Equality

SDG 8- Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 7- Affordable and Clean Energy

SDG 9- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

SDG 10- Reduced Inequalities

SDG 16- Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

SDG 17- Partnerships for the Goals

 

This is an honorary, i.e. non-paid position, but entails a wide visibility since the names and affiliation of  the authors will appear on the publication both in print, as well as on the on-line version, which they will be able to access free of any charges. Contributions to the Encyclopedia are peer-reviewed and hence officially count for promotion and tenure purposes.
