UMSKAL Sri MerindingFRIDAY, 06 FEBRUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) will be holding its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme at Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Sri Merinding on 17 February.

Organising Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syed Nasirin Syed Zainol Abidin said the programme which was scheduled to begin at 8.00 am was organised in conjunction with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul UMS level which will be held at the end of this month.

Dr. Syed Nasirin who is also the Dean of the Faculty of International Finance Labuan (FKAL) said in conjunction with that, UMSKAL will contribute kitchen cabinets, laundry rack, shoe rack and dining table.

“The UMSKAL CSR Programme will benefit 30 students of Maahad Tahfid Al-Quran Sri Merinding,” he said while chairing the organising committee meeting of the programme.

He added that UMSKAL will also hold a gotong-royong to clean up the surrounding areas and also plant fruit trees such as mango, rambutan and coconuts.

UMSKAL Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murnizam Haji Halik and Senior Deputy Registrar, Zamri Mohamad Tuah were expected to attend the programme. – ZMD (fl)

KESUMBA VIETNAMFRIDAY, 6 FEBRUARY – A total of 14 members of the Housewives and Women Staff Club (KESUMBA) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) including four family members were on  a study tour (LASBELA) to Ho Chi Minh City city, Vietnam from 29 January to 1 February.

According to a statement issued by KESUMBA, the visit was aimed to expose its members to the culture of the community of Ho Chi Minh city particularly in the cultural and development aspect .

In addition the programme also provided an opportunity for the delegation to visit some places like the Mekong River, Saigon Central Post Office, Reunification Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral thus promoting UMS at international level.

The statement added that the LASBELA programme to Ho Chi Minh city was also to increase the knowledge of its members to the history and culture of Vietnam.

The LASBELA experience to Vietnam became more meaningful for the tour group when they were given a surprise with a song by Sabah artist, Jimmy Palikat entitled ‘Tanak Kampung’ performed by a Vietnamese singer.

The study tour organised by the Bureau of Information and Communication of the Club was headed by the President of KESUMBA, Datin Baidah Ibrahim. – ZMD (fl)

Parking TownHallFRIDAY, 06 FEBRUARY – The Security Division of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has issued a parking location map for vehicles of those attending the Town Hall Meeting which will be held tomorrow.

According to a statement by the division, car park for distinguished guests are at the Chancellor Hall Square.

Whilst the parking lot on the right of the Chancellor Hall are allocated for principal officers of the university.

The statement also added that heads of JFPIU can park their vehicles at the parking area to the left of the Chancellor Hall and the parking lot of the Faculty of Engineering.  These areas are reserved for Media personnel covering the event and external invitation.

Officers and officials on duty are also advised to come early to avoid traffic congestion by parking their vehicle at the area of Student Affairs Department building.

The Town Hall Meeting will be held at the Chancellor Hall (Dewan Canselor) starting at 8.30 am and is expected to end at 12.30 pm. – ZMD (fl)

Pusat alumniTHURSDAY, 5 FEBRUARY – The Alumni Centre Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) remains committed in reaching out to the university’s alumni through various programmes organised.

Recently, the centre had initiated the ‘Jejak Alumni’ programme by visiting all UMS graduates around Sabah.

According to the centre’s Director, Mohd. Raffie Janau, the visits were intended to ensure contacts between UMS and its alumni are always strengthened besides looking into areas for cooperation.

“We are targeting to reach 50,000 alumni and that they are always in touch with the university.  We have various other plans that require contribution of ideas and views of the alumni,” he said, describing that the programme will be extended to Peninsular Malaysia and most likely overseas as well.

He was speaking to media after the visits to some UMS alumni around Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

Pameran UMS ArkibWEDNESDAY, 4 FEBRUARY – Corporate Relations Division (BPK) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) always ensure that UMS is at the forefront either within or outside the country through exhibitions and promotional activities.

BPK will be holding an education fair at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Wallace Bay, Sebatik Island Tawau as an effort to promote UMS to rural areas.

According to a statement issued by the division, the education fair would be held on 5 February 2015 starting from 9.00 am until 1.00 pm.

The education fair provides opportunities to the communities around Sebatik Island to know more about the programmes offered by UMS.

For the record, in 2014, BPK held 21 exhibitions including three exhibitions abroad. – ZMD (fl)
