riadah msmTUESDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER – The new Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni (TNC HEPA), Associate Professor Dr. Ismail Ali participating in the exercise program with the new students intake at the Stadium, UMS Sports Complex recently.

The exercise which took place for 45 minutes is among one of the programmes for the Orientation Week (MSM), session 2014/2015 student intake.

According to Dr. Ismail, the programme was held to encourage healthy lifestyle among the new undergraduate students which in line with the existing practise among UMS students.

“We want to produce balanced students; excellent both in academic and also active in co-curriculum. Thus, leads to healthier and active lifestyle student,” he said.

The programme was also joined by the MSM Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baba Musta and Head of HEPA Department, Mohd. Raffie Janau. -SS (JA)

begkel jurulatihTUESDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER – Department of Centre for Curriculum and Student Development (PKKP) Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) held a 2014 coaching workshop recently.

The workshop is delivered by PKPP UMS Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raman Nordin and Head of Corporate Relations Division, Azmi Jumat. Head of PKKP KAL Department, Che Din Md Salleh was also present during the workshop.

The workshop start from 9.00 am until 1.00 pm involved 20 lecturers, coaches and demonstrator that will teach the co-curriculum courses for semester I 2014/2015 session.

Dr. Raman hopes that all coaches will conduct the task entrusted with full responsibility for the students’ benefits.

He also request for the cooperation from all of the coaches; the lecturers, coaches and demonstrators, to ensure the students to attend the programmes, activities and lectures for the semester 1, 2014/2015 session.

ROKTUESDAY, 09 SEPT – Universiti Malaysia Sabah Orchestra consisting of Music Programme students and alumni Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW) will bring UMS name at the Rhythms of Kinabalu (ROK) 2014 concert.

The Orchestra group will be accompanying local artists; Dg. Noraini, Janrywine J. Lusin, Den Bisa and Velvet during the two days concert performance that will start this 13 September.

Uniquely, the orchestra will be featuring Sabah traditional instruments including Kulintangan, Suling Bambu, Sompotn and Gambus making this as a special and distinctive performance for this year ROK.

ROK Music Director, Roslee Haji Wahid said, the idea to include the traditional instrument is a way to expose to the community that the local music instruments are also able to take part in an orchestra show.

“I hope that the community will realise the important to appreciate Sabah traditional instruments which have distinctive uniqueness,” he said.

ROK 2014 will be held at the Sabah National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKNS) Auditorium in Kota Kinabalu.-ZMD (JA)

ibadah korbanMONDAY, 8 SEPTEMBER – The Mosque and Islamic Affairs Unit (UHEIM) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) open the participation today to all UMS citizen to join in the Ibadah Korban for the year 1435 Hijrah.
 
According to the statement released by UHEIM, the participation fee for this year is RM500 per portion.
Interested individual to participate this year Ibadah Korban, please contact Ustaz Jimmis Jumaat at 014-37181923 or his extension 2747.
 
Hari Raya Korban celebration at the university level will be held at 7 October 2014, 12 Zulhijjah 1435H at the UMS Mosque premises and a few selected locations that will be inform later.
 
Ibadah Korban is a sunnah act, practise in Islam and the act is an annual practise to the Muslim especially in Malaysia where they sacrifice animals to fulfil the order of Allah.

E-sticker pascaMONDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through Security Division and Registar Department introduce e-Sticker system during the postgraduate students’ registration recently.

Speaking in a statement, Deputy Registrar of UMS Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS), Aidah Noordin said, this is to enable postgraduate students for the semester 1 2014/2015 intake to apply for the vehicle sticker through online.

“The system advantage is to facilitate the students movement around campus during registration because the sticker can be used without having to wait for a week compared to before the system is used in the previous years.”

“This is proven when the registration day, 245 stickers have been issued,” she said while referring to the Committee of the New Postgraduate Students Registration Coordination Meeting (Jawatankuasa Mesyuarat Penyelarasan Pendaftaran Pelajar Baharu Pascasiswazah) chaired by the Deputy Dean (Academic and International) CPS, Dr. Patricia Matanjun, as the committee who triggered the idea.

Meanwhile, Aidah said that CPS is proud to help the students to fight for their lifelong learning culture, regardless of age and rank, towards increasing the educational knowledge and consequently making this university as the centre for the academic excellence with a global standing.

“CPS are thankful to the parents, families, individuals and organisations that have been helping and giving full supports to the students in furthering their education to the higher level in Universiti Malaysia Sabah,” she said.
