JAKMAS Sri AngkasaTUESDAY, 02 JUNE – A total of seven members of the Student Welfare Committee (JAKMAS) Sri Angkasa Residential College, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recently conducted a study tour to Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) Semarang, Central Java Indonesia.

Headed by the College Principal, Dr. Teuku Afrizal Anwar, the delegation departed to Cental Java Indonesia on May 28th for a six-day programme.

According to the statement issued by Sri Angkasa Residential College JAKMAS, the delegation also had a meeting with Student Executive Body (Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa or BEM) and UNDIP International Office.
 
The statement also mentioned that the visit was aimed to discuss issues about students in campus, the student organization and leadership system and also sharing views and opinions in shaping students’ credibility and adding added value among students.
 
During the visit, UMS delegations was also given a tour around UNDIP campus and Dutch post-colonial historical places around Semarang. There are now eleven faculties in UNDIP.
 
The College Sri Angkasa Deputy Principal, Ismail Norazman, was also among the member of the delegation.-ZMD

MONDAY, 02 JUNE – A Sharing of Knowledge session entitled ‘The Power of 6S’ was conducted today for members of the Housewives and Female Staff Club (KESUMBA) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) by Senior Deputy Registrar who is also the Head of Academic Services Division and Honorary Secretary for KESUMBA, Norti Sirin.

The talk which was held at Teratak KESUMBA was organised as part of the club’s activities.

Norti, in her sharing revealed that the ‘6S’ was Senyum, Salam, Sapa, Sopan/Santun, Syukurand Sabar (Smile, Greet, Manners, Be Appreciative and Patience).

“Don’t imprison yourselves with past experiences.  What matters  is the present and the people around you.  And if we are good to mother nature, mother nature will return the favour,” she said.

Norti also said that she learned most of these virtues through talks by renown speakers, Professor Dr. Muhaya Muhammad and Azizan Osman.

The sharing of knowledge session was attended by about 20 members of the club. 

KESUMBA’s Chief Bureau of Learning and Education, Junainah Ismail took the opportunity to inform its members that there will be a French speaking lesson to be conducted next Friday at 10.00 am at the same place.  All members are welcome. –FL

PRISEMSELASA, 02 JUN - Program Intelegensi Sekolah Menengah (PRISEM) anjuran Exco Akademik dan Kerjaya Jawatankuasa Kebajikan Mahasiswa (JAKMAS) sertaSekretariat Kolej Kediaman Tun Mustapha Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) telah melabuhkan tirainya baru-baru ini. Pengarah Program, Mohamad Rahim Abdullah berkata, program itu memberi gambaran awal kepada pelajar yang bakal melanjutkan pelajaran ke peringkat universiti. “Program ini juga merupakan salah satu medium untuk melahirkan mahasiswa yang mempunyai kemahiran dalam mengurus sesuatu acara di samping dapat memperkenalkan UMS kepada pelajar sekolah,” katanya ketika ditemui di Kolej Tun Mustapha. PRISEM yang dahulunya dikenali sebagai Program Ilmu Seiring Maju (PRISMA) dianjurkan untuk memberi inspirasi kepada pelajar sekolah bagi memberi input kepada pelajar yang terpilih untuk merasai kehidupan di universiti. Salah seorang peserta, Jannah Dee Julian memberitahu penganjuran program tersebut memberi impak yang positif terhadap dirinya. “Dalam program ini saya telah mempelajari bahawa kerjasama dalam kumpulan seperti aktiviti LDK adalah sangat penting untuk mencapai kejayaan yang diingini,” ujarnya yang berkesempatan merasai kehidupan di universiti selama 3 hari 2 malam di Kolej Tun Mustapha. Pada program tersebut, seramai 45 mahasiswa Kolej Kediaman Tun Mustapha dan 30 pelajar sekolah dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Beaufort, SMK Badin Tuaran, SMK Perempuan Likas, Maktab Sabah, dan SMK Taun Gusi telah mengambil bahagian.Program itu turutmendapat kerjasama bersama daripada Sabah Electricity Sdn. ProfNajib 1 final 3FRIDAY, 29 MAY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW) recently organised a seminar on ‘Performing Tradition for Contemporary Context’ aimed at their postgraduate students.

The seminar was presented by Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd. Najib Ahmad Dawa, the former Director-General of the National Art Gallery who once held the top post for Aswara in 2010 and Chief Executive Officer of Ikip College Pahang in 2011.

“Traditional society imitate nature due to their intimateness and their dependency on nature. Therefore, they transform not only nature but also its character,” he said, during his presentation.

The seminar was attended by more than 100 postgraduate students, including interested individuals.

Pasar Malam  EFRIDAY, 29 MAY – The Student Welfare Committee (JAKMAS) Residential College E through the Entrepreneurship Exco is organising a night market programme that provides opportunity for students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to become entrepreneurs.

Programme Director, Norain Amira when contacted by media said the night market held at Padang Kawad (Parade Ground) UMS starting from 19 May highlights 45 stalls that sells a wide variety of delicacies and beverages including products from their own creativity.

“This is an opportunity for UMS students to get a positive overview on entrepreneurship and I believe this would interest them,” she said.

Norain added, there would be busking group from the Residential College E Acoustic Club every night to entertain the visitors.

Pasar Malam @ E is open daily from 5 pm to 9.30 pm.
