orkestra 4WEDNESDAY, 18 JUNE – ‘DemiMu Malaysia’, a work done entirely by UMS became one of the songs that will be played on radio and television channels operated by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) in conjunction with the Merdeka month in August.

When approached, lyricist and composer of the song, Roslee Hj. Wahid said, it indirectly became a catalyst for him to keep composing to bring UMS’ name to national level.

Roslee was one of seven composers selected by RTM to produce a patriotic song to celebrate the month of independence this year.

“This is an honour for UMS especially for the UMS student orchestra, which will be directly involved in the production of its audio and video before being submitted to RTM,” he said.

Roslee who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage UMS also disclosed that about 75 musicians made up of undergrads and alumni of UMS would be engaged in the production of the song ‘DemiMu Malaysia’.

“Dayang Noraini is one of UMS’ students, we take this opportunity to feature her as the main vocalist of this song,” he said adding that this local artist had won the ‘Sinaran Passport Kegemilangan’ singing competition in 1998.

Asked about the challenges faced while producing the song in various versions, he said that the production cost was the major challenge for him.

“We welcome sponsorship from any interested parties who wants to get involved in the making of ‘DemiMu Malaysia’, he added.

The song ‘DemiMu Malaysia’ will be re-recorded by RTM and will be broadcast in different versions such as Simfoni Orkestra, Accapella, Big Band and acoustic vocal accompanied by piano. – ZMD (fl)
