bajet2015THURSDAY, 9 OCTOBER – Malaysians hope the issue on cost of living would be given serious attention in the Budget 2015 which will be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, tomorrow (Friday).

According to a poll conducted on the website https://najibrazak.com/bajet2015 , Malaysians had chosen ‘Cost of Living’ as the most important aspect to be considered by the government with 36,921 votes so far.

Meanwhile, three other issues expressed through the votes were on Jobs (22,459), Housing and Urban Life (20,478) and Education (13,762).

Several other categories listed in the poll were Environment and Agriculture, Youth and Sports, Public Service and Rural Development.

The website also provides a comment section that allows Malaysians to share ideas and opinions with the Prime Minister.

For Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff, Harmizul Sabudin suggested that the housing allowance be increased in view of the rising cost of housing prices in urban areas.

“Current house prices continue to rise. I hope the government can review the existing housing allowance for civil servants,” he said.

Budget 2015 will be held at the Dewan Rakyat, Parliament will be telecast live by local television stations beginning at 4.00 pm. - ZMD (fl)

Tabika KalWEDNESDAY, 8 OCTOBER – A group of Postgraduate Master’s students from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FKI) Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) had recently organised a programme on Moral Values for Children through Video Games at UMSKAL’s Computer Lab.

A total of 73 children from Taman Bimbingan Kanak-kanak (Tabika) KEMAS at the Federal Territory of Labuan accompanied by their teachers attended the programme.

Other kindergartens involved in the activity were KEMAS Kindergarten Kerupang, KEMAS Kindergarten Kg. Pantai, KEMAS Kindergarten Sg. Bedaun and KEMAS Kindergarten Sg. Lada.

The programme was designed to help a study conducted by FKI Masters students to study the application or moral values by using video games to children.

The programme was the first involving UMS and KEMAS Kindergarten Labuan. – SS (fl)

FKJ TALISMANTUESDAY, 7 OCTOBER – Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students of the Faculty of Engineering Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) are welcomed to apply for a scholarship from Talisman Malaysia Limited.

UPEP1TUESDAY, 7 OCTOBER – The Ethnography Research and Development Unit, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in collaboration with Penerbit UMS is inviting applications to join their Workshop on Writing and Book Producing on Research Work (Editing Workshop 2014).

The workshop will be held from 25-28 November 2014 at the Gallery, UMS Chancellery Building, Kota Kinabalu.

The workshop was organised with the purpose of increasing understanding, knowledge and skills in the aspects of writing and editing of research work. The organisers welcome the participation of academicians particularly young/new lecturers, research members (including research officers) from higher learning institutions throughout Malaysia as well as organisations, institutions and individuals who are interested.

Korban JohaidiTUESDAY, 7 OCTOBER – The Qurban and aqiqah Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) level scheduled to be held today went on smoothly despite the heavy rains that hit several areas in the state since Saturday.

Chancellery Media crew found that UMS staff cooperated in carrying out the Qurban which was held at the premises of UMS Mosque.

A total of 16 cows were sacrificed this year with five distributed to villagers of Kampung Nongkolud Tuaran, Minsilau, Tintuhan and Meringin Ranau.

The other 11 were distributed to staff and the needy staying in the villages around UMS campus.

Meanwhile, Mosque and Islamic Affairs Unit (UHEIM) UMS in a statement said that three cows were also donated by MBSB and Restoran Warung Padang Jawa, Alam Mesra as part of the sacrifice this year.

Qurban is a practise for Muslims around the world celebrating the Hari Raya Aidiladha on 11, 12 and 13 Zulhijjah every year. – NB/ZMD (fl)
