pengenalan umsTUESDAY, 03 SEPTEMBERThe involvement of undergraduates in students activities would help built their soft skills and identity in shaping academic excellence as needed in the working world.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah, the incompatibility between the course and graduate was seen to be the stumbling block in the deciding factor towards a career path but which now cannot be considered as the dominant factor, instead students should be innovative in applying the knowledge learned.

Datuk Dr. Harun was speaking at the Introduction of University and Principal Officers to the new intake in conjunction with the Orientation Week.

He added that those with knowledge but do not know how to apply them might not be competent.

“But those who are knowledgeable and able to apply them would surely be successful,’ he said.

ceramah persekitaranTUESDAY, 03 SEPTEMBERA talk on Sustainable Built Environment was held at the Galeri, Chancellery Building, UMS today.

The event organised by the EcoCampus Management Centre UMS had also invited a lecturer from the University of Nottingham, Prof. Jason Pomeroy who presented a talk on ‘The Sky Court & Sky Garden: Towards A Vertical Urban Theory’ for about 80 academic staff and management including UMS students.

He also touched on the concept and development of a garden in a building, especially sky scrapers. He said the rapid growth especially in the urban areas where development activities have been taking place at a rapid pace, had left no room for the setting up of a green environment.

Thus, the sky court and sky garden concept would be an alternative towards that objective hence building a green and sustainable environment.

At the same function, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof launched the UMS EcoCampus Green Community Action Plan. Also present were Head Librarian Dg. Rukiah Ag. Amit and the Director of the UMS EcoCampus Management Centre, Dr. Awangku Hassanal Bahar Pengiran Bagul. - FL
