raya di vietnamWEDNESDAY, 30 JULY – A group of 30 Malaysian graduates celebrated Aidilfitri in Vietnam for being part of a mission called ‘Green Summer Volunteer 2014’, for a month.

Among them was Nurlina Arappe (picture, centre), a student under the Bachelor of Communication from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

In a statement she said the Malaysian undergraduates prepared meals such as lemang, rendang, serunding etc to welcome the Aidilfitri celebrations there.

“We want to expose to the public about Vietnam food where ordinary Malaysians serve only once a year.

“Even though we miss celebrating the Aidilfitri this year with our family, relatives and friends as we have to be away, we are able to promote Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity and customs,” she said.

She said, in addition to being ‘young ambassadors’ of Malaysia, there were also students who begin to learn the values of life in greater depth participating in such a programme.

The volunteering mission sponsored by the Student Volunteer Foundation (YSS) was to help the local communities clean up the communities’ farms, repair of bridges, provide free tuition and some other tasks. – SS ( fl)
