Key Social Sustainability Training Programs at UMS


Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has been actively conducting social sustainability training programs aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives reflect UMS’s strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and socially responsible campus environment. The training covers key areas such as equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), community engagement, mental health, and gender equality. Many of these programs are recognised as part of the staff’s mandatory annual training under the Individual Development Plan (IDP) framework, ensuring continuous professional development and heightened social awareness among faculty and professional staff.

AKEPT-UMS SDG Leadership Program
In collaboration with the Akademi Kepimpinan Pendidikan Tinggi (AKEPT), UMS developed a leadership program designed to instil shared leadership qualities among future university leaders. The program emphasises community engagement, socio-economic development, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in addressing challenges faced by remote and rural communities in Sabah.
