About Us

PSHRU

The Psychology and Social Health Research Unit (PSHRU), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was established in 2000 with the main objective of developing psychological and social health research specifically in Sabah, and Malaysia in general. Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s position in the state makes PSHRU a research platform that contributes to the local society by disseminating information to stakeholders as well as channeling research results through publications, conferences, workshops, forums and seminars. PSHRU’s thrust study includes psychological well-being, development and use of local psychological test tools, cross-cultural psychology, clinical psychology and multi-disciplinary psychology.

PSHRU’s research findings can contribute to the development of new ideas and information that are in line with the government's desire to develop a healthy and wholesome society. PSHRU also offers training, services, consultancy and community services in the field of PSHRU thrust for students, researchers, academic staff, external organizations, and the public

Vision

To become a centre of excellence for research and innovation in the field of psychological and social health.




Mission

PSHRU’s mission is to become a centre of excellence for research and innovation in the field of psychological and social health through multi-disciplinary research, publication, conferences, training, services, consultations, community services and networking at national and international level.

Objectives

1. Conduct research to increase knowledge, provide data and information as well as references regarding psychological well-being, development and use of local-based psychological instruments, cross-cultural psychology, clinical psychology and multi-disciplinary psychology.

2. Provide services and consultation to the local communities and stakeholders.

3. Organize conferences, training, workshops, forums and seminars at national, regional and international levels.

4. Provide community services to local communities, organizations, and NGOs, in the field of PSHRU thrust.

5. Form a network of cooperation and external links at the national, regional, and international levels.
