KESUMBA 3kWEDNESDAY, 17 DECEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah Housewives and Women’s Club (KESUMBA) received cash donation from a transportation company, Maxfreight Sdn Bhd amounting to RM3,000.

The donation was handed to KESUMBA President, Datin Baidah Ibrahim at the VIP Room, Chancellery Building by the Manager of Maxfreight, Kamariah War.

According to a statement issued by KESUMBA, the donation would be wholly used for the club’s activities in future.

On another note, KESUMBA will be organising a Monsoon Camp coordinated by its Sports, Social and Recreation Bureau from 19 until 21 December 2014 for children of staff aged between six and 12 and also opened to outsiders.

The statement also added that KESUMBA will contribute food and beverage to be distributed to the Residential College’s surau every Friday night starting 19 December. – ZMD (fl)

Taming MAS JohanWEDNESDAY, 17 DECEMBER – Dance troupe Taming MAS, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) emerged champion in the Creative Ethnic Dance Category titled ‘Kiyap Abing’ dance (Open Fan) in conjunction with the 5th Borneo Higher Institutions (IPT) Dance Festival 2014, which was held recently.

A total of 11 students and two chaperons headed by head contingent, Mas Adi Alimin represented UMSKAL at the IPT Dance Festival held at Dewan Jubli, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Sarawak.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) UMS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali who attended the festival , UMS welcomed students involvement in the international arena as a way of interaction among UMS students and other IPT especially in the island of Borneo.

“I hope this success will motivate UMS students to continue making a name in the international arena and national level in various fields in the future,” he said and congratulated Taming MAS for their success.

In addition to winning the Chief Minister of Sarawak Challenge Trophy and cash prize of RM5,000, Taming MAS dance troupe also took home the title of Best Costume prize and cash prize of RM2,000.

Besides UMSKAL, the festival was also participated by dance troupes from UMS Main Campus, UiTM Sarawak, UiTM Sabah, UNITAR Sarawak, UNIMAS, UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB), Universiti Borneo Tarakan (UBT), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (UNLAM), Universitas Palangkaraya (UNPAR), Universitas Mulawarman (UNMUL) and Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN). – HH (fl)

 JOE7814WEDNESDAY, 17 DECEMBER – The Registrar Department of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) held their last monthly assembly for the year 2014 at the Gallery today.

According to UMS Registrar, Datuk Abdullah Haji Mohd Said, the monthly assembly was started since 2008 and observed the same manner as the assembly done by the Prime Minister every month.

“Starting next year, our assembly will be held every first working day of the month to strengthen the present administration of the Registrar Department,” he added.

In a special talk for staff of the Registrar Department, Assistant Registrar of the Faculty of Business, Economy and Accountancy (FPEP), Masri Judah shared the five habits that can be practiced by staff of UMS every day.

“Through reading the book ‘the Power of Thank You’, we can practice 5S, they are; always be thankful (syukur), accept positively anything that comes our way (sangka baik), always be patience (sentiasa sabar), always be ready (sentiasa sedia) and always smiling (sentiasa senyum),” he explained.

At the assembly, UMS Registrar also presented awards to monthly best staff of each division under the purview of the Registrar Department.

In addition, a special award was given to 10 security guards who successfully controlled and put off a fire which happened at the Department of Information Technology and Communication (JTMK) last November. – HH (fl)

usahawan rasmiTUESDAY, 16th DECEMBER – Entrepreneurship and innovations activities are crucial in increasing the nation’s economics level and competitiveness.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah said that with the progressive national economic development, the government efforts in eradicating poverty indirectly will be achieved.

“At the same time, the unemployment rate can be decreased through employment offer produced by these entrepreneurship and innovations activities,” he said in his opening speech for the UMS 2014 Entrepreneurship and Innovations Conventions held at the Recital Hall earlier this morning.

His speech was delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr. Shariff AK Omang.

Prof. Datuk Dr. Harun said that as one of the national public institutions, UMS is also supporting the government’s efforts in achieving a developed nation with higher incomes by the year 2020.

“Among UMS efforts, is the establishment of the Entrepreneurship Research and Development Centre (ERDEC). One of the centre’s key activities is instilling innovative and entrepreneurship skills among the UMS communities especially the students,” he added.

iktiraf kebangsaanMONDAY, 15th DECEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) send five of their students to participate in the National ‘Himpunan Ikatan Hati Warga Felda (IKTIRAF)’ programme helda at Dataran Pancarona in Putrajaya, recently.

The students delegations, led by the Chairman of UMS ‘Permuafakatan Siswa Siswi Felda‘ (PERSADA), Datu Rosman Datu Ahir Zaman who are also a member of Felda Sahabat Lahad Datu Region.

He and another four students are also participating in the various programmes during the three day event was held.

The other delegations are Nur Fatihah Abd Halim, Hasbullah Abd Samat, Ahmad Khusairi Abd Jalil-Feld and Mohd Khairul Ariffin Uding.

According to Datu Rosman, they have gained new valuable experiences while taking part in the whole programme. The programme was also joining in by more than 25,000 Felda communities from across the nation.

“During the event, we also attend the Premier Forum, a Night with Ustaz Kazim Elias, ‘Malam Cinta Rasul’ and also New Felda Generations Conventions,” he added when contacted after the event.

He also said that the opportunity to take part in a forum slot titled ‘Social Empowerment and New Felda Generations Communities’ at Dataran Pancarona, Putrajaya was also meaningful and informative. The panellist for the panel was prominent figures and one of them is a member of Felda Board of Directors, Datuk Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid, who are also the Chairman for National Service Training Council.

The highlight of the event shows the sweetest moment for Datu Rosman together with the contingents from Felda Sahabat 2 Youth Association (MBFM), Felda Sahabat Region, Sabah come forward to the stages, for winning the Malaysian Felda Youth Premier Cup.

The opening and prize-giving ceremony was officiated and presented by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak. –SS
