bimbing2THURSDAY, 6 AUGUST – The Student Affairs Department, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) continues to provide guidance to students in developing their self-esteem and personality.

This was stated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Associate Professor Dr. Ismail Ali at the official closing ceremony of the Leadership and Management Course for the upcoming Students Orientation Week 2015/2016 (BIMBING), recently.

Dr. Ismail, who was represented by the Executive Director of the Student Orientation Week (MSM) 2015/2016, Associate Professor Dr. Rasid Mail added that staff of the department would always educate, nurture and develop the discipline as well as morals of students besides ensuring their welfare.

“HEP will continue to support and help students to be more successful in terms of self development and to apply the values of first-class human capital,” he added.

The one-week course was held at the Multipurpose Hall of Tun Fuad Residential College and attended by 45 students as preparation for the registration of new students in September.

enactus ums naib juaraWEDNESDAY, 05 AUGUST – The ENACTUS Team of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) continues to demonstrate excellent performance by emerging as the 1st runner-up at the ENACTUS Malaysia National Cup 2015 competition which ended yesterday.

The team edged Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) at the finals held at the Malaysian Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) MATRADE Kuala Lumpur.

However, ENACTUS UMS had to be contented when their stiff ‘rival’ Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Campus (KSHAS) took the coveted title and emerged as the overall winner.

Third and fourth places went to UUM and USIM respectively.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah also expressed his joy and proud of the team’s achievement.

“Congratulations to ENACTUS UMS team for finishing second at the national level,” he said in his official Facebook page today. - (fl)

gambar ncWEDNESDAY, 05 AUGUST – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah expressed his condolences to the family of Nurul Liyana Mahmod, an undergrad of the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture who died in an accident last Monday.

Datuk Dr. Harun, in a statement on his Facebook page also gave motivational words to the families of the victims to remain calm and to accept this fate.

“I pray for her soul to be blessed and placed among the believers,” he said.

In the incident, Nurul Liyana was travelling with her father to the Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) for her practical training when the Honda Civic she was driving skidded and collided with a Perodua MyVi.

Liyana died at the scene of the accident while her father was seriously injured and placed at the Emergency Treatment Hospital Unit, Kuala Lipis.

Hailed from Malacca, Liyana was a final year student and will graduate in November. - (fl)

bendera merdeka UMSMONDAY, 03 AUGUST – The National Month festivity which falls in August is gaining momentum even though we have only entered the third day.

For Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), the festivity is more evident with the installation of the giant ‘Jalur Gemilang’ and Sabah flags along its main gate.

UMS Media observed that the flag, the pride of the nation and state have been mounted on poles along the main streets of the university such as the Perdana Puncak Ilmu road, Samudera road and Canselor road.

The flags were also seen mounted on the fences of the campus.

Several vehicles belonging to staff and students of UMS were also attached with the mini version of the National flag as a sign of patriotism to a country that will celebrate its National Day on 31 August 2015. - (fl)

kursus haji2015MONDAY, 3 AUGUST – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) once again was chosen as the location for the Hajj Course for the Hajj Season 1436H/2015M Sabah State Level (West Coast Zone) which ended yesterday at UMS mosque.

During the two-day course officiated by the Head of State cum Pro-Chancellor of UMS, Tun (Dr. ) Haji Juhar Datuk Haji Mahiruddin.

In his speech, he reminded the Malaysian pilgrims to preserve the good name of Malaysia that frequently received praise from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as having pilgrims who were disciplined and good natured.

“The aim of this Hajj Course is to provide opportunities for would-be Haji to practice the Hajj and umrah ways correctly and give a clearer picture while being in the Holy Land, well-done and congratulations to the Management of Tabung Haji in performing their responsibilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Tabung Haji, Haji Ahmad Sohaimi Dato’ Abd. Rahim when met by media also thanked UMS for the cooperation and commitment rendered in providing the venue and logistics.

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister Department Sabah, Datuk Haji Mohd. Ariffin Haji Mohd. Arif; UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah and the Director of Tabung Haji Sabah, Datin Hajah Nurlaila Haji Said. - SM (fl)
