THURSDAY, 27 MARCH – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will stand to benefit through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste which would be signed on 2 April 2014.Under the MoU, UMS will provide the expertise and skills to establish training schemes in the oil and gas industry to selected community in the country.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah, for a start, UMS would offer the opportunity to study for certificates to diploma level to 30 selected trainees from Timor-Leste.
“The MoU will certainly increase the number of students thus putting the image of UMS internationally,” he said at a press conference held this morning.
He also added that a UMS-Timor Leste Liaison Centre would also be established to coordinate and strengthen the ties with the republic.
“The Liaison Centre will be officially opened by the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão at the Research Gallery, Chancellery Building UMS,” he added.
The Head of State cum Chancellor of UMS and Sabah Chief Minister cum Pro-Chancellor of UMS are expected to witness the signing of MoU. – ZMD (fl)
