MONDAY, 2 MARCH – The BIMP-EAGA Unit for Tourism Development, Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will be organising a ‘Book Writing Workshop’ this Wednesday, 4 March 2015.
This workshop is part of the BE-UTD Workshop Series.
According to a statement issued by the organiser, the workshop is limited to 30 persons and will start from 9.00 am until 12.00 pm.
The speakers of the workshop are Director of UMS Publisher (Unit Penerbitan UMS), Associate Professor Dr. Asmady Idris and Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, Associate Professor Dr. Rasid Mail.
Staff of UMS are encouraged to join as MyCPD points will be given.

MONDAY, 2 MARCH – The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) wanted the people to practice a green lifestyle while still at the ivory tower.Its minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili said in this connection, all Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Labuan International Campus (KAL) residents can take part by practicing green lifestyle towards the success of the National Green Technology Policy.
He said various approaches can easily be practiced in everyday life including austerity measures in the use of electricity and water at dorms and academic buildings by switching off lights and fans when not in use, and making sure the tap is closed tightly to avoid wastage of water and so on.
In addition, the practice of recycling method; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle were some small steps yet effective that could be practiced every day.
“UMS staff and students are encouraged to make use of biodegradable food containers at the college cafeterias,” he urged.
Maximus who is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Malaysian Green Foundation said this at the opening of the Green Youth programme organised by the Malaysian Green Foundation at the Main Lecture Hall 1, Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL).

FRIDAY, 27 FEBRUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Rakan Muda Secretariat and Melaka Multimedia University (MMU) organised the ‘Ngabas Borneo 2015’ which started yesterday and will end on 3 March.
According to the Programme Director, Ahmad Ersyad Azmi, the activities included foster family programme, motivational workshop with local youths, teaching workshops for schoolchildren and a gotong-royong activity.
He said, the MMU delegation was also scheduled to visit the Borneo Marine Research Institute (IPMB) UMS and the Sabah Youth and Sports Board before leaving for home on 3 March 2015.
“Yesterday, this group of 22 people arrived in Kota Kinabalu and was welcomed by the Secretariat of UMS Rakan Muda, Norhana Nordin before embarking on a trip to Kampung Chinta Mata, Tenom,” she said when contacted by UMS media.
The ‘Ngabas Borneo’ programme is an annual event that was first implemented in 2009. – ZMD (fl)

FRIDAY, 27 FEBRUARY – A total of 200 new postgraduate students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) enrolled in the various programmes offered at the 2014/2015 Semester 2 Session.According to Senior Assistant Registrar of Centre for Postgraduate Studies UMS, Alna Tugon said the postgraduate students then underwent the University Briefing and Methodology Course in preparation of facing life as a postgraduate student.
She said, it was an important moment for the new students towards embarking on the lifelong learning culture regardless of age and rank.
Meanwhile, Deputy Dean (Academic and International) Centre for Postgraduate Studies, Associate Professor Dr. Patricia Matanjun also welcomed the new UMS postgraduate students.
She said, in line with the Vice-Chancellor’s Message 2015 themed ‘Transform Our Minds, Uplift the Performance of the University’, Centre for Postgraduate Studies aimed to produce competent graduates who can achieve success globally.
“I believe you continue with your study to this stage to progress in your career besides allowing yourselves to contribute to society and the country.
She was speaking on behalf of the Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Datin Dr. Mariam Abd. Latip.
The current registration saw the enrolment of seven international students from the People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Japan and Pakistan. – SS (fl)

FRIDAY, 27 FEBRUARY – About 149 students from Labuan Science Secondary School (SMSL) attended a motivational talk at the Lecture Hall, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Labuan International Campus (KAL), recently.They consisted of 65 Form One and 84 Form Two students who attended the motivational talk conducted by Faculty of International Finance Labuan (FKAL) Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor Dr. Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal.
Dr. Geoffrey who is also the Deputy Director of UMSKAL advised students to study diligently not only to succeed in their exams but also gain knowledge to be useful citizen for the sake of religion, race and the nation.
He said, as students selected into the Labuan Science Secondary School, they should set an example and a role model to other students in the country as well as to their own family members.
He added that to become excellent students, they need to follow the process of teaching and learning under the tutelage of qualified and experienced teachers.
“Students should also listen and heed the advices of their parents who always pray for the success of their children,” he concluded. – SS (fl)
