Yesterday, the Association for Professional and Management Officers (Non-academic) (PPUMS) feted its members in a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering which was celebrated on a low scale.

Held at the Café De’Sireh Chancellery Building, the gathering was aimed at fostering closer ties among its members besides the chance to mingle and exchange ideas.

The gathering was also attended by the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali.

Also present was PPUMS President, Hj. Zawawi Hj. Tiyunin and Exco members of the association. – SS (fl)

NC Istiadat PenghormatanMONDAY, 25 AUGUST- The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah represents UMS to attend the second Repatriation Ceremony for MH17 victims arrived home yesterday morning.

The commercial MH19 aircraft depart from Schiphol, International Airport, Amsterdam arrived at Bunga Raya Complex Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 8.30 am with the remains of the late Ng Shi Ing and Mohd Ghaffar Abu Bakar.

The urn containing ashes of Ng Shi Ing was brought to the Xiao En Bereavement Care in Cheras and would be kept with her younger sister, Elisabeth Ng Lye Ti, which arrived earlier on Friday together with 19 of the other remains.

Both of Elisabeth and Ng Shi Ing ashes will be remaining at the centre until the remains of her son, Benjamin Lee Jian Han is brought home.

According to Shi Ing’s family, all of their ashes will be sent home to Muar, Johor after the prayers according to the rites and ritual performed at Xiao En Bereavement Care.-ZMD (JA)

JC IN MEMORIESFRIDAY, 22 AUGUST – More than 200 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff and students observed a moment of silence to remember the passing of the late Ng Shi Ing, a lecturer who was one of the victims of MH17 fatality last July.

The Mourning Ceremony in conjunction with the National Day of Mourning was held in a solemn and sombre mood with none of those present could withhold their tears when a video of ‘JC In Memory’ was shown at the screen at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP).

FPP Dean, Prof. Dr. Ismail Ibrahim, described the demise of Ng Shi Ing as an irreplaceable loss.

“She was a dynamic young lecturer. She went to Belgium to fulfill her work obligation to present papers at an international conference,” he told reporters after the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Ismail also said that the deceased husband, LT Commander Lee Vee Weng had informed him about the discovery of the body of the deceased and was expected to be brought back to Malaysia tomorrow.

“However, the body of his son, Benjamin Lee Jian Han has not been found and we hope that the investigating team could find the body of his son as soon as possible,” he added.

Also present to pay their last respects were Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ahmad; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) UMS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali and senior officials of the university. – ZMD (fl)

STUDENT JC IN MEMORIESFRIDAY, 22 AUGUST – A final year student of Education with TESL programme, Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) described the late Ng Shi Ing as a lecturer who inspired her and her course mates.
 
Jaclyn Yau, who was among some friends who placed flowers near the framed photo of the late Ng as a symbolic gesture in paying their last respects.
 
“She always advised us to find our potential even if it was small. She was well-loved by her students because of her friendly and helpful ways. Her lost will surely be felt,” she said.

The passing of Ng Shi Ing, better known by her nickname JC, was also felt by her neighbour and colleague, Assoc. Prof. Mat Zin Mat Kib.

“She was a good neighbour and friend who always exchanged ideas in our academic sessions. I really feel the loss of a friend. I hope JC’s family remain calm in accepting her passing,” he said when met after the Memoriam Ceremony organised by FPP.

The Ceremonial Reception of the Bodies of MH17 Victims at Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this morning also brought back the ashes of the late Ng Shi Ing’s sister, Elisabeth Ng Lye Ti. – ZMD (fl)

sukmab keputusanFRIDAY, 22 AUGUST – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) emerged 2nd Runner-up at the 3rd Borneo University Students Sports Tournament (SUKMAB) which ended today.

UMS collected two gold and four silver behind Universitas Tanjung Pura, Kalimantan Indonesia at second place with three gold medals.

The Champion of the tournament this time went to Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak with an overall haul of three gold and one bronze.

The closing ceremony and prize presentation was held at UMS Postgraduate Auditorium in a solemn atmosphere in conjunction with the National Day of Mourning. All athletes took part in the one-minute of silence to honour the victims of the MH17 fatality.

A flag presentation by the Director of UMS Sports Centre, Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah to the Assistant Officer of Outdoor Activities, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Domigoh Kapal was also held.

Brunei will host the upcoming biennial fourth edition tournament .

The tournament saw the largest participation involving 29 contingents from Public and Private Higher Education Institutions including Brunei and Indonesia (Kalimantan). – SS (fl)
