Dayangku RozlinaMONDAY, 18 AUGUST – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Centre for Alumni Affairs is tracking its alumni who have graduated since 1999.

According to the Assistant Registrar of the Centre, DK Rozlina Pg. Aliuddin, the government is currently actively tracking graduates who have yet to register and update their personal details in UMS Alumni system.

“What we hope is that each UMS alumni would have that sense of belonging and contribute back to their alma mater after undergoing a three to four years of study here,” she said.

She added, the Centre also planned to implement a variety of activities that will involve UMS alumni such as MPP Reunion, a Golf Tournament and Alumni Nite to gather all previous graduates.

“We also plan to establish a UMS Alumni Association as a platform for alumni to contribute ideas towards the development of the university,” she further added.

To date, UMS Centre for Alumni Affairs had launched six UMS Alumni Chapter in several zones such as Kota Kinabalu, East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Klang Valley, Lower Interior of Sabah, Labuan, Tawau and Sandakan.

sukum futsal 39MONDAY, 18 AUGUST – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Woman Futsal team enters the Final in the Malaysian Inter-University Staff Sports (SUKUM 39) which is held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor.

They beat the host with an aggregate of 4-0 at the semi-finals yesterday to face defending champion Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) team that edged Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) earlier.

Meanwhile, UMS Sports Centre Director, Mohd Asyraff Fong Abdullah in a statement said UMS woman futsal team had earlier defeated Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) team 3-1 at the opening.

Asyraff who is also the coach added that UMS had also trounced UniMAP 5-0 earlier in the group match.

“Our aim this time is to win the game (futsal),” he quipped.

Meanwhile, a futsal player, Evra Malubin when met by Chancellery Media said her team mates were in high spirits to face the finals.

tiga naik pangkatFRIDAY, 15 AUGUST – Three Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff had been appointed to new posts starting early August and end of July.

They were Dr. Aliakbar Gulasan, Dr. Ramzah Dambul and Norti Sirin.

Dr. Aliakbar was appointed as the Director of UMS Centre for Alumni Affairs effective 31 July, while Dr. Ramzah will serve as Deputy Director of the Centre for Strategic and Academic Management starting 01 August.

Norti was appointed as Head of Academic Services effective 01 August.

Perjanjian Tongkat Ali2FRIDAY, 15 AUGUST – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), recently signed a commercialisation agreement with a local company, Borneo Rainforest Herbs Sdn. Bhd. to market UMS products.

Two of the products namely AliStyrTM (Tongkat Ali Stirrer Impregnated with Honey) and ALITETM (Tongkat Ali Tea) were developed by a researcher from the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources (FSSA), Ag. Ahmad Mohd. Yunus.

Through the agreement, Borneo Rainforest Herbs Sdn. Bhd. was given the exclusive license to the use of technical information besides being trained by the researcher on the production of these two products.

According to sources issued by the Centre for Research and Innovation (PPI) UMS, the agreement also enabled the industry to use and sell the AliStyrTM and ALITETM in the Malaysian market.

After signing the agreement, Borneo Rainforest Herbs Sdn. Bhd. had since brought the two products to a Health Products and Medicine Exhibition and Conference at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. – ZMD (fl)

spor tangguhFRIDAY, 15 AUGUST – Discussions on the completion of research papers with respect to the detection and control of Ganoderma was postponed to a date to be announced later.

The Notice of Suspension was issued by the Sustainable Palm Oil Research Unit (SPOR), Faculty of Science and Natural Resources (FSSA) in a statement today.

According to the statement, SPOR previously had set 19 August as the date of discussion, but for reasons which cannot be avoided it had to be postponed.
