The result and offer letter can be obtained online through UMS Academic Service Division (BPA) website at http://bpa.ums.edu.my/semakanums from 12.00 noon until 11.59 midnights 23rd September 2014.

The registration date for Universiti Malaysia Sabah main campus students will be from 17th until 23rd September 2014. Students registering on the 17th until 19th September need to register at the Department of Information Technology and Communication (JTMK) or goes to One Stop Centre Building, UMS Students’ Affairs Department for those who registered on the 22nd and 23rd September.

For UMS Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) student, the students are asked to register from 15 until 23 September at Academic Service Division Office, Bangunan Menara UMSKAL.

Student registration at Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture will be held at main office, Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Sandakan at the same date as the UMSKAL students.

SLE picWEDNESDAY, 10 SEPT – Probability for women to suffer from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus or SLE is eight time higher than men within the range of 15 until 45 years old.

It is estimated that more than 10,000 people in Malaysia have been diagnosed with SLE over the past thirty years; 90 percent of them are women while 10% are men and children.

According to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Faculty of Medicine and Health Science Senior Lecturer, Dr. Malehah Mohd Noor, SLE or Lupus is an immune system disruption where the body immune system to attack certain parts of the body when the system supposed to protect it.

“There are two types of lupus, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) which can affect any parts of the internal organs and Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) which only affects to the skin,” she said.

 

 

She added that SLE can affect parts of the body including joints, skins, kidneys, lungs, blood vessels and the brain.

“At the moment there is no specific test to diagnose Lupus. It is not impossible to have the symptoms for years before diagnosed to suffer from Lupus,” she added.

The most common SLE symptoms are arthritis, often accompanied by fatigue and fever.

Realising the danger of SLE diseases, UMS and together with Persatuan SLE Malaysia (PSLEM) and Kota Kinabalu Queen Elizabeth Hospital collaborate to make an awareness campaign walkathon ‘Walk-a-Payung’.

The campaign will be on the 20th September 2014 where the participants will walk for 1.5 kilometres starting from UMS Chancellor Hall.

Golf AmalWEDNESDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER – 40 golfers are expected to participate Charity Golf Tournament in conjunction with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) 20th years anniversary at Labuan International Golf Club (LIGC), Kiamsam this 13th September.

According to the Tournament organising Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali, golfers from Sabah, Brunei, Labuan and Universiti Malaysia Sabah will competing for the lucrative prizes including cash, 48inch TV, refrigerator, mattress and electrical goods.

He said, this first time tournament is organised to increase the fund for the project of Small Island Research Centre.

Apart from that, this tournament will help UMS students’ welfare and establishing linkages between university and government departments and agencies, private sectors and also non-government organisation (NGO).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail, whom also the UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) said that the tournament will be officiated by Labuan Parliament Member, Datuk Rozman Isli.-SS (JA)

riadah msmTUESDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER – The new Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni (TNC HEPA), Associate Professor Dr. Ismail Ali participating in the exercise program with the new students intake at the Stadium, UMS Sports Complex recently.

The exercise which took place for 45 minutes is among one of the programmes for the Orientation Week (MSM), session 2014/2015 student intake.

According to Dr. Ismail, the programme was held to encourage healthy lifestyle among the new undergraduate students which in line with the existing practise among UMS students.

“We want to produce balanced students; excellent both in academic and also active in co-curriculum. Thus, leads to healthier and active lifestyle student,” he said.

The programme was also joined by the MSM Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baba Musta and Head of HEPA Department, Mohd. Raffie Janau. -SS (JA)

begkel jurulatihTUESDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER – Department of Centre for Curriculum and Student Development (PKKP) Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) held a 2014 coaching workshop recently.

The workshop is delivered by PKPP UMS Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raman Nordin and Head of Corporate Relations Division, Azmi Jumat. Head of PKKP KAL Department, Che Din Md Salleh was also present during the workshop.

The workshop start from 9.00 am until 1.00 pm involved 20 lecturers, coaches and demonstrator that will teach the co-curriculum courses for semester I 2014/2015 session.

Dr. Raman hopes that all coaches will conduct the task entrusted with full responsibility for the students’ benefits.

He also request for the cooperation from all of the coaches; the lecturers, coaches and demonstrators, to ensure the students to attend the programmes, activities and lectures for the semester 1, 2014/2015 session.
