BolaJaring1TUESDAY, 03 FEBRUARY – A selection run for Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Netball Team will be held on 14 February 2015 at the Multipurpose Hall, Sabah Federal Government Administration Complex starting at 8.00 am.

According to the Manager of UMS Netball team, Siti Rofaidah Muhammad Razali, the selection session is to get the best 12 players who will represent UMS at the coming ‘Sukan Badan Berkanun’ or ‘Sukanun 2015’ hosted by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

She added that UMS was chosen to be the venue for the event this year.

"Sukanun 2015 will be held from 28 April until 3 May 2015 with Netball competition scheduled between 28 April until 2 May 2015," she added.

UMS LogoMONDAY, 2 FEBRUARY – The public is invited to attend a public hearing session or Town Hall Meeting on the Malaysian Education Development Plan (MEDP) this Saturday at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

The session which will begin at 8.30 am will be held at Dewan Bankuasi (Banquet Hall), Bangunan Dewan Canselor (Chancellor Hall Building) UMS.

The programme which is expected to end at 12.30 pm will be graced by the Minister of Education II, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh.

It is, among others aim to raise awareness and to get input on the Higher Education MEDP.

The Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah is expected to attend the event. – SS (fl)

HEP MonashMONDAY, 2 FEBRUARY – A total of 25 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students of the Student Representatives Council (MPP) 2014/2015 Session made a study tour to Monash University, Melbourne Australia recently.

According to the Head of Student Development Division, Student Affairs Department (HEP), Kim Asbiyallah Shah Akim, the visit also known as ‘Adventure to Kangaroo Land’ aimed at exposing students to the culture of Australians especially in terms of work culture, local development besides gaining experience abroad.

“During the visit, UMS students had a dialogue with representatives of Malaysian students who were studying at Monash University and exchanged views on the context of education and student leadership,” she said when contacted by UMS media.

She added that all input received through this visit were likely to have a huge impact in strengthening the management and organisation of UMS students programme in future.

“This visit also provided an opportunity for both partites (UMS and Monash University) to focus on the education system applied in Australia and Malaysia, as well as reviewing the systematic and conducive learning environment at Monash University,” she added.

‘Adventure to Kangaroo Land’ was one of UMS HEP Department's activities to internationalise its students globally through sharing of ideas with leading universities in Australia. – ZMD (fl)

retreat JPPMONDAY, 2 FEBRUARY – The Development and Maintenance Department (JPP) recently organised a Retreat Programme and Family Day for three days that ended yesterday at Beringgis Beach Resort, Papar.

The programme was attended by more than 100 staff of JPP and their family members.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni (HEPA), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali representing UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah.

In his speech, Dr. Ismail expressed his appreciation to the staff of JPP for successfully organising such a programme which he deemed as a high commitment and initiative by the management of JPP to achieve the vision, mission in improving the quality of service to its customers.

“In addition to pursuing and achieving the objectives set, our family must also not be forgotten,” he added.

Meanwhile, Director of JPP, Kamisah Husin also congratulated and thanked all staff of JPP and their family members who attended and participated in this programme.

He also presented a Best JPP Employee Award for 2014 to Assistant Architecture Officer, Suhaimi Latip.

The programme marked the success of the Retreat held from 30 to 31 January, before closing it with a family day held on 1 February 2015. – SM (fl)

MPP ASEANFRIDAY, 30 JANUARY – Members of Student Representatives Council (MPP) attended the ASEAN University Youth Summit representing Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), held at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Kedah which ended yesterday.

MPP delegation led by its President, Mohd. Al-Farid Abaraham attended the programme which was held in conjunction with the selection of Malaysia as the host country for ASEAN.

Speaking when contacted by media, Farid said the programme focused on efforts by ASEAN countries to spearhead student mobility in the aspect of volunteerism.

“The experience of participating in this forum is very beneficial as we can exchange ideas on issues and recommendations towards improving activities involving volunteerism.

“We are also proud that UMS is chosen to represent Higher Learning Institutions (IPTA) alongside Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Malaysian Student Volunteers Foundation to this programme that is participated by 50 universities from ASEAN countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Brunei,” he said, adding that the programme was also attended by representatives from South Korea as guest country.

Farid said, all the input obtained would have an impact on development in the aspect of volunteerism, especially among students of UMS and undergrads of Malaysia.

Also representing Universiti Malaysia Sabah was Asmah Kadir and Monisa Amri who were Exco for UMS MPP Welfare and Student Services.
