Amanat NC - 1TUESDAY, 24 FEBRUARY – Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah called on all staff and students of UMS to aim for UMS excellence as their main agenda.

According to him, it was necessary for them to strive and contribute to society and nation to ensure high productivity and quality output.

“The responsibility on the vision and mission of UMS do not only lie on the shoulders of the Vice-Chancellor but is a collective commitment that should be planted in ourselves to achieve UMS’ aim.

He said this when delivering his message or ‘Amanat’ to all staff and students of UMS at the ‘Vice-Chancellor’s Message 2015’ held at the Main Lecture Hall Complex 2, today.

He also reminded staff of the University not to treat UMS merely as a rice bowl.

“Consider each day of work as your last, and execute each task well. Human resource is the pulse of UMS. The body acts according to the thoughts,” he said. – ZMD (fl)

LOGO UMS PUTIHMONDAY, 23 FEBRUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) administration has given class exemption for tomorrow's lectures so as to give staff and students a chance to attend the 2015 Vice-Chancellor’s Message.

According to a statement issued by the Chancellery Department, the university has agreed to approve the exemption to make way for students to attend the message which will be delivered by Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah.

CPD and SDP points will be awarded to staff and students respectively who attend the event.

The 2015 Vice-Chancellor Message will be held at the Main Lecture Hall Complex 2 starting at 8.00 am.

As such, class exemption is for lectures held between 8.00 am and 12.00 noon. – ZMD (fl)

sassrec2015WEDNESDAY, 18 FEBRUARY – Sabah Centre for Strategic and Security Research (SASSREC), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will organise a seminar on Sabah Border Safety and Security for two days from 25 to 26 February 2015 at the Banquet Hall, Chancellor Hall and UMS YTL Auditorium.

The keynote address will be delivered by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid Abu Bakar who is also UMS Adjunct Professor for SASSREC.

SASSREC Director, Dr. Zaini Othman said, the organisation of this seminar was an honourable effort towards better understanding and detailed information regarding Sabah border safety and security on the post bloody incident in Lahad Datu, which happened two years ago.

“The debate in this seminar covers a range of issues related to security issues brought about through different perspectives which will be presented by UMS academics,” said Khalid, who is also a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW).

He also said, the community particularly in Sabah were exposed to issues regarding security and border control besides the sharing of ideas and suggestions that could intensify research cooperation in future.

“Through this seminar, the collaboration and support provided by the authorities and society will strengthen SASSREC platform to be a leading research centre with a niche area in security research in Sabah,” he said.

Apart from the IGP, the seminar will also involve about 16 academicians who will present papers and research findings on issues of security, borders, migration, social interaction, islands, territorial, politics and conflict management.

This seminar is open to the public, activists and non-governmental organisations, and no admission fee is charged.

CSR AL HaqqMONDAY, 23 FEBRUARY – Various activities were initiated by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to celebrate Maulidur Rasul, UMS level this year.

Recently, a total of 100 employees of the Al-Haqq contingent gathered for a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in cleaning the Kampung Brunei Membakut cemetery.

Al-Haqq contingent consisted of the Bursar Department, the Registrar Department, the Information and Communication Technology Department , Academic Services Division and UMS Security Division.

Acting Registrar, No’man Hj. Ahmad said the implementation of CSR project this year focused on the post-flood activities that hit Sabah recently.

“This programme also serves as a reminder for all that herein (cemetery) lies our final destination,” he said when closing the programme.

He also added that the programme was one way to commemorate Prophet s.a.w who called for unity amongst all and to practice charity thus answering to the call of Allah S. W. T.

The half-day programme was spent cleaning the surrounding areas of the cemetery, as well as toilets and store and painting all signs and fence of the cemetery.

The CSR project also provided for the sharing of knowledge by the university with the children of Kg. Brunei.

Also present in providing assistance in the programme were members of the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) and staff of Atikah Enterprise (K) Sdn. Bhd.

Ustaz Malai Ali Malai AhmadWEDNESDAY, 18th FEBRUARY – Around 250 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staffs and students present during a special talk, in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul celebration 1436H held at Recital Hall (Dewan Resital). 
The talk was presented by a guest speaker, Ustaz Malai Ali Malai Ahmad reminded all university community to practise work ethics according to the Rasulullah pbuh sunnahs.

According to him, a virtuous character will lead individuals to be more responsible person when performing their task; it’s a great tact and this will become example to their colleagues.

“Sayyida Ali (ra) once said; be like the flower, giving fragrance while living. People who spread fragrance in the world are the one who are virtuous, ethical and practising their Prophet’s sunnah. People cried when they die for losing him/her,” he added.

He further advice the audience to be grateful for all Allah blessings and always be patient overcoming tests from Allah.

A virtuous individual are the person with these characteristic; always be grateful and have patience. These characteristics will ensure us not to feel envious towards others,” he added more.

The talk was organised by al-Muqrashid contingent, made up of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW), Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy (FPEP), Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP), Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language (PPIB) and UMS External Centre (PLUMS).
