LOGO UMS PUTIHTHURSDAY, 12 FEBRUARYAl-Muqtashid Contingent invites all Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff and students to a special talk tomorrow in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s birthday UMS level.

The contingent is made up of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW), Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting (FPEP), Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP), Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language (PPIB) and UMS External Centre (PLUMS).

According to a statement issued by the contingent, the talk titled ‘Work Ethics in the Context of Rasulullah S.A.W Sunnah’ will start at 8.30 am.

The statement added that CPD points will be given to staff who attend the talk.

The talk, which will be held at FKSW Recital Hall (Dewan Resital) will be presented by a guest speaker, Ustaz Malai Ali Malai Ahmad. – ZMD (fl)

science united projek amalTHURSDAY, 12 FEBRUARY – Science United is calling all Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff to donate used clothing for their charity project in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul, UMS level.

According to a spokesman for the organisers when met by UMS media, clothing for donation must be clean and still usable as it will be donated to the needy at Kampung Mengkapon, Pitas.

Donation can be channeled to the General Office of the Faculty of Sciences and Natural Resources (FSSA) at the Science and Technology Complex or the Forestry Complex.

He added that donations can be sent to the office from now until 18 February 2015 between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm.

Science United is made up of the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation, Borneo Marine Research Institute, Biotechnology Research Institute and the Science and Technology Preparatory Centre UMS.

Pertandingan NasyidWEDNESDAY, 11 FEBRUARY – The Islamic Centre of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) offers cash prize of RM500 and a certificate for the Champion of the Nasyid Competition organised in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul UMS level, to be held on 26 February 2015.

According to a statement issued by the centre, the competition will be held at the Main Lecture Hall starting at 9.00 am.

First Runner-up of the competition will receive cash prize of RM300 and certificate, whilst the 2nd Runner-up will stand to win cash prize of RM200 and certificate.

The statement also added that forms including rules and regulations of the competition can be obtained through their website at www.ums.edu.my/masjid.

Bengkel FSSAWEDNESDAY, 11 FEBRUARY – A total of 36 Faculty of Sciences and Natural Resources (FSSA) laboratory staff, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) attended the Laboratory Management Workshop Series 2, 2015 organised by FSSA yesterday.

According to the Dean of FSSA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baba Musta, the workshop was an opportunity for FSSA lab staff to increase their knowledge particularly in the aspect of technical skills according to the needs of laboratories and their programmes.

“The organisation of such programme is most welcome to improve work performance and quality of science scheme, particularly at FSSA and in general in UMS,” he said when officiating the workshop.

The workshop, among others was organised to assist employees improve their performance in line with the requirement of the university.

“I want to thank and congratulate all FSSA lab staff for their commitment in attending this workshop willingly, for the purpose of strengthening their skills and knowledge in executing their daily tasks in the workplace,” he added.

The workshop conducted for two days also included experienced trainers from FSSA to assist with the teaching, either in theory or practical. – ZMD (fl)

lestari 2WEDNESDAY, 11 FEBRUARY – In order to lead a sustainable future needs effective leadership particularly among the relevant parties to take the right action in promoting environmental care and to develop conservation initiatives.

Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah said, this was important for leaders to support conservation and sustainable development to inspire and empower members and stakeholders to create better results and sustainable value for the environment, economy and society.

More importantly, he stressed the importance of building the next generation of capable leaders equipped with the higher realisation to manage and conserve natural resources which were many in this country.

He was speaking at the Opening Ceremony of Sustainable Leadership Course at UMS. His speech was read by the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rasid Mail.

In his speech, Datuk Dr. Harun also made the announcement that UMS was the first university in Asia to join as member the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC). – SS (fl)
