utusan UMS taja konvoTHURSDAY, 20th NOVEMBERA total of 15,000 Utusan Malaysia newspapers will be distributed for free in conjunction with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) 16th Convocation Ceremony that will be held on the 22nd until 24th November 2014.

According to the Head of Chancellery Department, No’man Ahmad, 5,000 newspapers will be distributed every day during the convocation at the Chancellor Hall and Tamu Gadang site, Padang Kawad UMS.

“4,000 newspapers will be distributed at the Chancellor Hall while the rest will be given at Tamu Gadang site,” he said when presenting a sponsored cheque to Celestina Ubing, Sabah Executive Marketing at Utusan Malaysia, in a simple ceremony yesterday.

Students and visitors can obtained the newspapers as early as 7.30 am on Saturday and Monday, while on Sunday the newspapers will be distribute at 11.00 am, added No’man.

The simple ceremony was also attended by Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics and Internationalization, Prof. Dr. Shariff AK Omang, UMS Registrar, Datuk Abdullah Hj. Said, and the graduands.

Pemenang eLearningTHURSDAY, 20th NOVEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) grabs two gold and silver medals in the Invention, Innovation and Design on e-Learning (IIDEL) competition held at Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) recently.

The first gold medal was contributed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee Kean Wah from Faculty of Psychology and Education with his innovation project, ‘Creating a Personalized Learning (PLE) to Develop University Students Writing Process’, and another gold medal was contributed by Yoon Sook Jhee with the title ’Kopivosian! Developing Localised Learning Objects for Language Learning’.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee Kean Wah also contributed another silver medal through another innovation project, ‘Digital Materials Development for English Language Teaching (DMD4ELT)’. The second silver was from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Choon Keong with his project ‘Measuring Student Teachers Creativity via Morphological Analysis Method’.

The competition was one of the few programmes in the National University Carnival on e-Learning 2014 (NUCEL2014). This first time event was a platform to promote e-learning applications and practise the blended learning methods to Malaysians.

NUCEL2014, was organized by the Council of Heads of e-Learning Coordinator for Malaysia Public Higher Education Institutions (MEIPTA), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), received a total of 194 participations from both public and private institutions of higher education (IHE).-ZMD (JA)

laluan konvoWEDNESDAY, 19th NOVEMBER – In conjunction with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) 16th Convocation Ceremony, UMS Security Division will be closing a few roads in campus to avoid traffic congestion.

A one-way route system will be implemented beginning 22nd until 24th November by a road closure from Clock Tower Roundabout headed to Faculty of Engineering until Jalan Canselor junction.  

A one-way route will be applied along Jalan Samudera (Clock Tower Roundabout heading to ODEC) and Jalan Canselor (Jalan Samudera junction headed to Chancellery).

UMS second gate at Jalan Borneo (Jalan Masjid –PALAPES) will be open for a smooth traffic flow and facilitate vehicle users to enter and exit UMS.

Parents and UMS citizens are reminded to comply with the one-way route plan and using the appropriate route to avoid traffic congestions especially at the main gate route. -MA(JA)-

benjamin alumniWEDNESDAY, 19th NOVEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) pioneer graduate, Benjamin Jerome reminded the university’s undergraduates on pursuing their studies for a brighter future.

According to him, knowledge search are continuous journey since experience and knowledge will constantly change with the movement of time.

“Never give up because we will never know that achievement might be just a step ahead,” he said when contacted exclusively for Media Chancellery at Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Benjamin, a Bachelor of Business with Honours (International Business) degree holder from Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, is a General Manager at Kampuchea Food Corporation in Cambodia.

He held the position since 2007 is also the person in charge of every KFC franchise businesses in the country.

Benjamin also expressed his congratulations to all graduands in conjunction with UMS 16th Convocation Ceremonies.

neoart latestsWEDNESDAY, 19 NOVEMBER - Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), through Visual Arts Technology Programme (PSTV) from Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW), will be organizing a Borneo Art Exhibition from 29th until 30th November 2014 at Suria Sabah shopping mall.

This programme, which is also a collaboration with UMS Chancellery Department, will be exhibiting students’ and academicians’ from FKSW art works and pieces. The exhibition involved paintings, sculptures and ceramics which revolve in native Borneo arts and specifically related to Sabah arts.

Head of Programme of Visual Technology Arts (PSTV), Norhayati Ayon said that there will be around 50 of the best collections from the students and lecturers, with native Borneo arts theme owned by PTSV since 2005 that will be exhibited.

She added that there will be a two dimension (2D) art works; paintings that can be in watercolour, oil, charcoal and also pencils, and a three dimension (3D) art works; sculptures made of iron, wood, ceramics and recycled discarded materials.

“We will also provide a digital corner that will show students’ collections including short film, documentary and animation with Borneo thematic stories especially Sabah’s folklores,” she said.

According to her, other than showcasing PTSV’ best collections, the exhibitions will open up opportunities to all PTSV undergraduate students to showcase their art works at the special corner in the exhibition, which will be known as ‘Bazar Seni’.

“We hope that through this two types of exhibitions, the new current students will be able to gain experiences and knowledge on how to exhibits and markets their works to the communities,” she said.

With ‘Sabah Tanah Airku’ theme, Norhayati also mention that the exhibition is also aims to help collecting funds for the less capable and fortunate students to lighten up their burden during their studies in PTSV Programme.

“Hence, the publics are welcome to buy the art works, from both the best collections and students’ art works that, will be displayed in the exhibition,” she explained.

The organiser also welcomes corporate and private organisations to come and attend the Borneo Art Exhibition. They are also encourages to buy the exhibited works to be collect and display as their companies’ collection.
