Programme Overview

The program aims to nurture innovative and responsible tourism professionals globally, supporting Malaysia’s aspirations to become a leading tourism hub. Students will be exposed to both theoretical and practical learning beyond the lecture room environment, with the goal of producing holistic tourism graduates with strong entrepreneurial and management skills. This will enable them to apply their knowledge and expertise in both the public and private sectors of the tourism industry. Additionally, the program seeks to create graduates equipped with personal, technical, and conceptual skills, focusing on elements critical to the service-oriented tourism industry, thereby meeting global demand for skilled tourism professionals. Graduates of this program would enjoy a rewarding career in the diverse and growing tourism industry at both local and international markets. The employment opportunities exist in the fields of travel consultancy, tour operations, destination marketing, attractions and destination management, events programming, government and public organizations related to tourism promotion and development, or becoming an entrepreneur as a tourism business operator.

Entry Requirements for

  • Fulfils the University General Requirements

  • Obtain at least a Grade C in ONE (1) subject at the STPM level: Business Studies/Economics

  • Obtain at least Grade D in ONE (1) subject at the SPM level: English Language

  • Obtain at least a Grade E in ONE (1) subject at the SPM level: Mathematics.

  • Obtain at least BAND 2.0 for results obtained starting from Session 1 of the year 2021, or BAND 2 for results from 2020 and before in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET), within the validity period at the time of application.

  • Pass the examination and/or interview as determined by the public university.

  • Fulfils the University General Requirements

  • Obtain at least a Grade C in ONE (1) subject at the Matriculation level: Economics / Principles of Economics / Business Management.

  • Obtain at least Grade D in ONE (1) subject at the SPM level: English Language

  • Obtain at least a Grade E in ONE (1) subject at the SPM level: Mathematics.

  • Obtained at least BAND 2.0 for results obtained starting from Session 1 of the year 2021, or BAND 2 for results from 2020 and before in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET), valid as of the application date.

  • Pass the examination and/or interview as determined by the public university.

  • Fulfils the University General Requirements

  • Possess a Diploma related to the field from an educational institution recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

  • Obtain at least a Grade E in Mathematics at the SPM level.

  • Obtain at least Grade D in English Language at the SPM level.

  • Obtained at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from Session 1 of the year 2021 or Band 2 for examinations up to the year 2020, valid as of the application date.

  • Pass the interview as determined by the faculty.

  • Pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a credit in Bahasa Malaysia/Bahasa Melayu

  • Obtained at least Band 3.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from Session 1 of the year 2021 or Band 3 for examinations up to the year 2020, valid as of the application date.

  • Possess an APEL MQA certification with Level 6 MQF.

  • Pass the interview as determined by the faculty.

International candidates who wish to apply for the undergraduate program in UMS must follow the general entry requirements as follows:

Higher Certificate of Education (STPM) or GCE ‘A’ Level or equivalent:

  • A pass in GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent;
  • A pass in the STPM, GCE ‘A’ Level, or Higher School Certificate (HSC), or its equivalent with at least grade C in any THREE (03) subjects;
  • A pass in Cambridge International Examination Test with at least grade B; or
  • Exceptions for English-speaking countries as stated in the MQA qualifications; or
  • Exceptions for schools/institutes/colleges that use English as the official language for learning and teaching.
Foundation of Diploma or its Equivalent:
  • A Diploma or its equivalent recognized by the Malaysian government and the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 3.00;
  • A pass in the Cambridge International Examination Test with at least grade B; or
  • Exceptions for English-speaking countries, as stated in the MQA qualifications; or
  • Exceptions for schools/institutes/colleges that use English as the official language for learning and teaching.
