bimbing hepTUESDAY, 15 JULY A total of 35 Orientation Leaders (PSM) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) attended the Orientation Leadership and Management Course 2014/2015 (BIMBING) recently.

According to the course coordinator, Kim Asbiyallah Shah Akim, the programme was an annual event organised by the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (HEP) to guide the number of UMS undergrads selected as PSM.

“This is a preparation in facing the Orientation Week (Minggu Suai Mesra, MSM) 2014/2015 Session of new intake this coming September,” he said when contacted by Chancellery Media.

Kim, who is the Assistant Registrar at the Student Affairs Department said BIMBING course exposed participants to the aspects of leadership, management, administration, self-development and other matters relating to MSM.

In the meantime, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni when contacted said it was the responsibility of HEP in educating, nurturing and forming the discipline and moral of undergrads as well as taking care of their welfare during their period of study at UMS.

“We will always support and help undergrads to achieve success and apply the soft-skill values thereby producing first-class human capital. We will stand firm despite the many trials and challenges that come our way,” he said.

Held at Residential College AB UMS, the five-day course was facilitated by 10 experienced facilitators. – SS (fl)

RamadanCampus VCFRIDAY, 11 JULY – A solid support towards the State Government was one of the backbone that had allowed Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) bring changes on educational development to the local community since its inception 20 years ago.

This was communicated by UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah while delivering his speech at the Ramadan@Campus event organised by the State Government and State UMNO Liaison Body.

According to him, with the backing and unwavering support from the State Government, UMS had produced 40,000 graduates who were now spread across the public as well as private sector.

“Let’s hope that the ties between the state government and UMS continue to be strong in providing a ray of hope to the people of Sabah in particular and Malaysia in general the importance of education to completely change their lives,” he added.

Located at UMS Mosque, the event was also attended by the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj Aman along with several cabinet ministers.

ums bolaTHURSDAY, 10 JULY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) football team will join the KDM Football League 2014 that will start this coming 23 August.

UMS football team is invited as guest team to this competition involving 15 teams organised by the Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) Malaysia.

Other teams competing are KDM Ranau, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Kiulu, Penampang, Papar, Kimanis, Tenom, Keningau, Tambunan, Inanam, Sandakan, Putatan and KDM Main.

This was confirmed by KDM Malaysia President, Datuk Peter Anthony in a statement yesterday.

The competition offers cash prize of RM100,000 to the champion and RM50,000 to the 1st Runner-up. The teams finishing in third and forth positions will receive RM30,000 and RM10,000 respectively. – SS (fl)

ramadan kampusTHURSDAY, 10 JULY – Staff and students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) are invited to the Ramadan @ Campus today with the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UMS.

The event will be held at UMS Mosque starting at 5.00 pm.

Among the activities which will be held included tazkirah Ramadan, iftar and fardhu prayers as well as terawih.

Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman will also be giving out contributions to those underpriviledged, especially students.

pelajar umskalTHURSDAY, 10 JULY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through its Labuan International Campus (KAL) sent a delegation of students and staff of the university to preach at Sapulut District, Sabah recently.

According to the programme coordinator, Rafidah Arshad, the missionary-based programme was an effective way to expose participants to missionary skills as a freelance activity.

“Participants perform follow-up missionary work at the areas involved through various forms of social activities, education, social and welfare work that promotes understanding, warmth and fellowship among the community of all races and religions,” she said.

She added that the expedition that lasted for six days received support and cooperation from the Student Affairs Division (BHEP), Student Representatives Council (MPP) UMSKAL, Students Welfare Committee (JAKMAS) UMSKAL, Student Mentor Partners and Rakan Muda Secretariat UMSKAL.

“The expedition fosters a noble missionary network with volunteers from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Perak who was with the team the past six days,” she added.

The delegation consisted 14 pax and was accompanied by an independent preacher Ustaz Mohd Fadli Yusof and his wife, Ustazah Aisyah Nordin. – SS (fl)
